He's not a buffoon, complete or otherwise. He's inherited a squad of players who haven't played as a team - a squad, yes, but never really a team - for at least the past season.

Some of their recent signings in the past two seasons have left much to be desired. They simply haven't worked. It has to be said, our club is not exactly a stranger to that phenomenon are we? Time and again? Expensive signings that bombed? From day one?

They're not going to win any major trophy, neither are they going to get relegated.

But eight points behind us already?
