Protesting Because you Don't Win

First there was Brexit, now we have Trumps victory to become the next President of the United States.

Both very different in terms of context but both very similar in terms of public reaction.

The media have stoked the fires on both outcomes and would have you believe a Brexit / Trump vote is a victory for hate, racism etc. etc.

Where did this sense of entitlement come from whereby people have gone from disagreeing with you to telling you that not only should you not believe in 'X' but if you do, you're an immoral person?

There are people that are scared of the direction politics is taking but i'm more concerned with this new wave of liberal entitlement who feel that their view is the only one that should be entertained and will riot/protest if something goes against them. Even the media have openly discussesd the association of hate with Brexit/Trump. This is dangerous discourse and i'd much rather see them report on the disgraceful scenes following both results.

I've also seen the youth claiming that their future has been taken away from them - remarkable stuff.

A vote from someone in their 40s/50s/60s holds exactly the same weight i'm afraid. This arrogance (notably from Milennials) should be treated with complete disdain.

Had Clinton won, the American people had no chance of change.
With Trump, there is a chance, albeit slim.
Slim>None.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm starting to wonder how much of a chance we'll actually see.

Day zero: Before the election, pledges to control the entry of Muslims to the US disappear from Trump's campaign website.

Day one: Trump's advisers start talking about a 'virtual' or 'technological' wall with Mexico.

Day two: Trump says Obamacare has some good facets that should be kept, moving away from his pledge to "tear it up" on the first day of his presidency.

Also says that he has "not thought about" a formal investigation into Hilary Clinton's alleged past indiscretions.

Maybe it's just the crazier headline policies he's (sensibly) dropping quickly, but it looks like America might be waiting a while for anything revolutionary from Trump, if it ever comes.

The key one for me is the Paris Agreement. I can't really give as much of a sheet what he does in the US: the American people have elected him democratically under a fair system.

But if he jeopardises a decade's worth of work to try to find a global accord that has some *chance* of combatting man made climate change, then, well, I don't really know what the rest of the world should do.
Threaten sanctions against the US through the UN?
---------
If he does not bring about desired change then people will have backed a racist, sexist rich guy for nothing.

Yeah TBH its my only major concern as well, he promised to tear up the agreement, but then he was promising a lot of crazy stuff he has backtracked on since.

Just can't help but feel this might be one he personally believes in, a lot of businessmen seemed to have differing views on climate change to scientists.

Intolerance is the right's domain...

===============================

No. That's not correct.

Sorry, just can't let you get away with that throw away line in the midst of your paean to left-wing virtues.

What's been the issue with antisemitism in the Labour Party then?

Here's an article from a publication you will be familiar with:

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/mar/18/labour-antisemitism-jews-jeremy-corbyn

So.

"Intolerance is the right's domain..." ??

Is it really???

And - out of interest - what is your highest educational qualification?

The article basically goes on about 2 people...

Okay let me clarify If I misled anyone with my statements here...

Intolerance is the right's domain.

But!

You will find, 2 and probably many more than 2 people with left wing views and intolerant views!

Intolerance is the rights domain as they more commonly have it, I don't think anyone with any sense would claim any large political group or even any large collection of any sort of people could be free from any prejudice or intolerance altogether.

I think you have taken the statement is their domain and ran with it a little too much.

A level equivalent I guess.

Afternoon mate,

I was looking at your profile after recognising the 1977 Liverpool team, as i loved those players as a lad.....even though I am now Chelsea.

At school in May 77, I always remember a girl being tied to the lockers with liverpool scarves, as she was man utd.

Thinking about it again, after moderation, I've decided to downgrade this to a U.
