Really don't get why he went to MLS.

Disagree. He still loved the sport enough to want to continue playing, but knew that he was no longer and asset to the club he loved. He did the right thing for both himself and Liverpool, and I don't think it in any way detracts from his status as one of Liverpool's best ever players.

I think he could have still done a job at Liverpool.

Especially with a lot of the new faces coming in he knows what it is to 'be a Liverpool player' that few in this current team do. (Milner, Hendo and Coutinho at a push)
