Mmmmm...now i wonder if there could possibly be any person born locally and who captained LFC who may be looking for a job at Anfield....mmm, i wonder who

Yeah seems pretty likely.

Don't think he'll go straight to U23's. We'll probably promote within and then have Gerrard take over the leftover position like the U16/18s.

I would be disappointed if Gerrard was given the U23s straight away tbh.
We need the best coaches coaching at our club, not the best former players who are yet to gain experience.
Let him prove himself first, either elsewhere or with a lower age group, then once he has shown he is upto scratch he can take over.

It's a fair point, Tiddles. But Gerrard's influence at Liverpool cannot be ignored. Look at us with Giggs and how he was given the first team coach and then assistant manager job straight off the bat.
I have literally no idea of Gerrard's coaching cap abilities so cannot comment on whether he'd do a good job at any age level for Liverpool.
However, something to consider with him coaching the under 23's is passing on the knowledge of making that transition from reserves to first team having come through Liverpool's academy. It could prove valuable for some of the youngsters coming through.

I get that dazz and I personally have a feeling he will make a very good coach, have done for a while. He seems a winner and I think he will be one of the better British coaches produced for a while.
And I agree on your point regarding passing on knowledge to younger players but I feel that is best utilised with the U16s or even U18s, having Gerrard coach you would give a great bit of inspiration at a critical development point. That would also allow him room to breathe and grow as a coach naturally on his own, as you can imagine the media circus surrounding him being a coach at liverpool. I also feel it could curb the inevitable calls for Gerrard as manager if we go on a poor run.
Overall though i just want the best players at the club and i want the best coaches to help them. Gerrard hasnt shown he is a great coach yet but has earned the right to learn with us given what hes achieved, but he shouldnt be able to walk straight in near the top.
Start at the bottom, make mistakes, learn from them and in 5-7 years time when i feel Jurgen may leave us who knows, we might already have his successor at the club.

Yeah that's fair. The point about inspiring the younger age group is true, but with the under 23's that's still potentially there but you are right at the stage where a player tends to transition from youth football to first team so it's more relevant in that regard.
Will be interesting to see what happens either way.

Gerrard is currently taking his UEFA "A" qualification, he knows the club, and has come through the system.
Gerrard had a lot of natural ability, compared to say Carra who had to work much harder to play the game at the highest level.
It would be a good appointment for us, rather Gerrard coaches for us in whatever setup than anyone else.

I don't see any harm in bringing him in at the younger age groups.
He's qualified, and if he wants to do it.
Maybe he won't like it, maybe he will decide he wants to go an manage somewhere lower down, maybe he will decide he doesn't want any of it and go to punditry.
Maybe he will love it and will just stay working at that level and not want to progress higher.
However it pans out, it would be stupid of the club not to try it, when you have a bona fide club legend who is a qualified coach.

If the club are considering giving him the role then this would be the rationale behind it.

Good luck to beale, nice to see a British coach with balls to try and work abroad.
Gerrard will not be given the u23s, one of the other coaches will move up, it's just a coincidence that beale is leaving as Gerrard is joining the academy imo
