Which would you prefer

Guaranteed one of the following

1) Your team qualifies for the Champions League, has a good run but loses in the final. 5

2) Your team wins the League Cup/EFL cup. 1

Am I correct in assuming that as fans everyone would go for option 2?

Chelsea won the league cup two years ago.

It's true, though. The losers of the CL final are nore memorable than the league cup winners.

It's all about cups for me. Out of Liverpool winning the League Cup in 2012 and losing the 2007 CL final, I know which one I thoroughly enjoyed and which one hurt. Don't get me wrong, Cup runs are great but there's no substitute for winning it which is why I hate it when we don't take these competitions seriously by playing 'weakened' teams.

I would hate to lose a CL final again. Still devastated by 2006.

Losing to Barca twice was easier to take because we were comprehensively beaten by the better team.

I can't imagine how I'd feel losing the final the way Chelsea, Milan or Bayern did.

Trophies all day long, which is why I didn't care if Arsenal finished 6th or 8th under George Graham, his teams never went long without winning silverware and a lot of them are memorable to fans. Things were fun back then and the fan base were united.

A lot depends if your team win regular silverware, eg you win the league then 2 seasons later win the league cup and reach the cl final then the cl run will be more memorable to a fanbase.

A losers medal in a final is still failure. Teams like tottenham that don't traditionally win silverware should be looking to win any trophy instead of thinking they've got bigger fish to fry only focusing on the big 2 having not won anything since 2008. At what point does the penny drop for them? I bet they have fond memories of the 08 win than any cup run they've had since.

Remember the pressure Arsenal was under to win a trophy? All because Wenger targeted 4th, neglected the cups by playing the kids when the CL and league was never a realistic target in that period (except for '08 and '11 season). The baron years creeped up and reached a point where it became embarrassing. The moment he took the fa cup seriously is when he got the trophy monkey off his back. You wouldn't hear any Arsenal fan say ' Oh it's ok if we don't win anything because we almost won the champions league in 2006'.

Change the champions league back to a competition only for champions or top 2 and watch how PL teams and fans start taking the league and fa cups seriously again.

If clubs don't value the league cup then make it so only the bottom half of the PL table can enter so they and teams in the lower leagues have half a chance of winning something.

I would actually take option one... I have seen Spurs win the League Cup twice but getting to the Champions League final would be incredible and unprecedented.
