Kalvin Phillips

Gave the ball away under little pressure 3 times in a minute that led to the corner, then kills the whole game. Does anyone really think he is good enough for a team chasing top 6?

He has no composure on the ball, his passing is poor and he makes awful decisions. Only playing because we sold Cook, Mowatt has regressed, 3 injuries in midfield and 2 senior pros have been ostracised. There is a reason that Cook was in the team at 17, Mowatt at 18, Howson at 18, Delph at 18 and Phillips at 21.

Result not the end of the world, they are a good team and may have won anyway, just a disappointing way to lose.

Green has to take some blame from that goal. He's caught in no mans land and if he stays on the line he catches it. Wood was a bout to kick it clear as well so Phillips should have left it. Grimes looked alright.

So grimes a 20yo boy is still being pilloried for his performance at QPR when Dave was shocking yet he is talked about like bremner and Giles abosolute joke
.......

Who has more calibre?

Who has been given more chances and been gash?

All I can say is that something must be going on behind close doors, because it is patently obvious that Dave and Murphy have more to offer than Phillips. I just do not understand, with our two best midfielders out, why they are not in the squad. Am I missing something?

Phillips was to blame for the corner that let to the penalty but I do think he really tried to chest it out rather than handle it. Penalty, yes but not a red for me.

However I think he will lose his place to Bridcut or O'Kane. Whoever comes back first.

In the heat of the moment he left his arm trailing but thought straight red was a bit severe.
The lad's trying his heart out for the cause and doing the best he can but is he the long term answer?

Not sure why he gets battered, he's a kid. He's given everything for the team and will be a decent player. Nothing more though.

On what basis do you believe it is not a red?

It's Denying an Obvious Goal Scoring Opportunity by Handling.

See Law 12 of the Laws of the Game.

If it's handling on the goal line, it has to be a red card.

It's a definite red card. It's hard to see how anyone can dispute that, really.
