Aging Legends and one last hurrah?

I have a mate who has this theory that quite often a legendary player can have one last amazing season (where the player defies his age and logic) and then it's like they decline over night.....

He thinks football history is full of examples to back him up......

Is he right? Cos i can only think of one or two examples at best/most. And even then they're poor examples...

Pirlo had a 5 year revival when he left Milan.

Raul when he went to Schalke.

Beckham - only half seasons but his stints at Milan and then PSG proved he wasn't past it as many were saying.

Adebayor scored 17 league goals for Spurs that season he was on loan and then he was never the same for us or anywhere else.

It wasn't a season, but henrys return to us in 2012 was pretty special.

Even as a United fan I got chills when he scored on his return against Leeds. An amazing moment.

Rvp?
Arguably the worlds best striker in our 20th title season and also amazing for arsenal the previous season.
The season after he was meh and then the season after that... Even more meh.

once players move to lesser leagues OR if their last hurrah is really just playing bit parts then yeah.

Like... ok we can look say at smi hyppia. I thought he was done when agger came but he found a way to play despite having zero pace left. (attacking the ball in the air)

Raul went to shalke and had a couple of year having looked done

I think in general what is being talked about is a guy leving a top top club where the expectation doesn't meet the ability to run about any more and he moves to a smaller club where expectation is less and he looks good.

But then again... surely this would actually mean winning something.

oh and beckahm... please PSG was a nothing thing in a deeply noncompetitive league that was already won and they handed the guy a medal for faff all
