Lambos's Squad Usage

I thought it might be interesting to look at Paul Lambert's use of our squad now that he has been in charge of 10 games and with the January window upon us.

He's used 27 players in his match-day squads and, based upon the system I use in "Predict the Team" (3 points for a start and 2 for a bench place), these are the points the players have accumulated:

Costa 30
Doherty 30
Coady 28
Batth 26
Dicko 26
Edwards 26
Iorfa 26
Price 26
Eno'hare 25
Bodv'son 24
Cavaleiro 24
Hause 24
Saville 24
Stearman 23
Ikeme 20
Burgoyne 16
Saiss 15
Ronan 11
Mason 10
Lonergan 8
Teixeira 8
Flatt 6
Wallace 4
Evans 3
Williamson 3
B-Jackson 2
Gibbs-White 2

2 players have started every game (Costa and Doherty) and Doc, I believe has played every minute of every game.

Of course I realise that some positions have left Lambo with little choice, and that there have been injuries and a few suspensions. I think the biggest indication, however, to his thinking are the players that heve featured little or not at all. Gladon, John and Oniangue could have featured but haven't. Teixeira, Flatt, Wallace and B-Jackson have been available but rarely selected.

Some have not been available at all due to injury: Silvio, Graham and Zyro, the last 2 at least are sure to play their part at some point. Others have recently returned from injury and are sure to get more game time eventually: Mason, Williamson and Evans. There are a few out on loan which makes their status difficult to assess, particularly Henry. And then others here on loan may return, Stearman (for footballing reasons) for example.

Lambo wants to reduce numbers but also, we are told, bring one or two in. If this list shows anything it may be that certain players may be on their way (if someone wants them of course).

I'd probably take Evans over Oniangue, Saville, but if they bring this guy from Blackburn him does this relegate him again in the pecking order?

Price and Evans started out as quite different players but they seem to be have taken on some of each others qualities to become more rounded players.

End of the day Lambo's got to asses what he wants and feels he needs from the group. Some are going to be unlucky.

For Evans to play so well against a PL team must mean he has the tools to do a good job and Williamson seemed to marshall the back four superbly, c0nsidering so little play for ages that's unbelievable Jeff.
Vinnie, about 4,600.

With the performance Williamson put on, plus his organization of the whole defense makes me wonder who the 2 CB's will be against Villa. Will it be Williamson/Batth, Williamson/Stearman or Batth/Stearman.

I think you all know who I'd like.

I think all combinations are possible and Hause was outstanding in the second half on Saturday. Still a player with a lot to prove but I did come away from the ground thinking he has what it takes, and I have rarely been convinced before

Williamson Batth/Hause would get my vote, time to build a partnership with an eye on next season's promotion push.

Love stears but he doesn't have a future here.

I think PL will keep the same back 4 for the game against Villa which would be tough on Danny Batth but a manager has to pick the in form players and DB is not in form.
I reckon the time has come for PL to get Danny into his office and explain why he is relieving the lad of the captaincy allowing him to concentrate on his job as a CB and let Williamson and Ikeme do all the organising of the defence.
Ikeme to keep the arm band for me.

Fair play to Lambert for utilising the younger players and giving them a chance. So far so good for him as the youngsters have certainly not let him down. Its a very brave decision as he is putting his job on the line if it doesn't work out.

I'm glad to see Evans back too as I do believe that he will prove to be a very good player.

How many fans did Wolves take to Stoke, DJ?

Wolves took 4,600 and if we get to play Liverpool we should be able to take almost double that.

Evans looked a very good prospect 2 or 3 years ago but had seemed to lose his way. Maybe the loan did him good but he was a key player on Saturday and I'm sure he will get more games now
