UFC 209:Woodley vs Thompson 2 fight thread!

UFC 209 has been scheduled for March 4 and this week three massive fights have been confirmed for the event. The first is the much anticipated Woodley vs Wonderboy rematch following there thrilling first fight at UFC 205. Can Wonderboy change things up and take the win or will Woodley hurt him again and this time possibly finish him? If that main even doesn't get your mouth watering then the co main event will. Khabib vs Ferguson for the interim title has been confirmed and what a fight this should be. Both men are at the top of the most competitive division in the UFC and with a shot at McGregor at stake, this fight has so much riding on it. Stylistically it's a terrific match up and we could be looking at a potential fight of the year. The third fight on this card that is must watch is Hunt vs Overeem. When two top heavyweights go toe to toe in the UFC it's always great entertainment but you take into account the power both these men possess, this could go 3 rounds or be over in 3 minutes. Hunt coming off that controversial loss will be looking to get back to winning ways and so will Overeem.

Full Card:
Tyron Woodley vs. Stephen Thompson
Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Tony Ferguson
Alistair Overeem vs. Mark Hunt
Darren Elkins vs. Mirsad Bektić
Todd Duffee vs. Mark Godbeer
Igor Pokrajac vs. Ed Herman

Thoughts on the card and match ups?

Also woodley will not be getting a money fight after mouthing off at dana

Yep. Woodley vs masvidal vs maia winner.
Gutted for maia, he wanted to wait but the forced him to fight masvidal.

Tony vs mcgregor next. As much as I'd like to see khabib tony, 209 has left a sour taste in my mouth. I also think it is highly suspect that khabibs team didn't inform the ufc doctor in relation to the weight cut issues and instead opted to go to the hospital.

Yeah

My new jobs a bit different and has a lot of training and other stuff involved.

Can easily see DC losing tonight, he seems less confident than his normal self and the weight in cockup didn't help

I've got DC and Mousasi.

What a clusterfluck the moussasi-wiedman fight eneded up being, I don't get how you can stop a fight after a ref has made a mistake in stopping it for a illegal knee, weidmen may have well as lost the fight anyway but you can't stop the fight and say you have 5mins to recover then 90secs later say oh my mistake I stopped it by accident you've now lost, didn't make sense

Cormier vs rumble went much as I expected, just like last time rumble just seemed gassed and when he couldn't get rid of Cormier early it was almost a carbon copy repeat of last fight

Weidman vs Mousasi decision was a joke. The fight up until that point was a fascinating watch but everyone will naturally gravitate towards the controversial moment in the second. The first thing we need to clarify is that the two knees were legal and second the ref stopped the fight because he thought they were illegal. It was a human error and looking at that replay, it still took a few watched to see whether or not it was within the rules so I cannot fault the ref. Ultimately the new york commission are responsible for deciding what occurs next and they chose to stop the fight. I would have liked to have seen them resume fighting but the rules are the rules regardless of how ambiguous they may seem. The positive is that the rematch is almost certainly next for both men and neither really lose any stock although it could be argued that Mousasi was in a very advantageous position when the fight was stopped.
Get the rematch sorted and with Bisping vs GSP yet to have a date, it's not like Weidman or Mousasi are going to be left behind.

The main event was another great fight in my opinion. Johnson looked very loose and was having real success in the first round, until he started wrestling. Johnson hurt Cormier a few times the fight and he broke DC's nose yet he continued to revert back to his wrestling and expend large amounts of energy. Cormier to his credit survived some big shots and he kept composed when AJ was trying hard to take him down. DC probably thought he had hit the jackpot when Johnson spent most of the fight trying to grind him down on the fence. DC eventually got AJ down and capitalised just like he did in the first fight. Inexplicable game plan for AJ but DC remains light heavyweight world champion and Jones looks likely next although there was some trash talk with Jim cage side. AJ also announced his retirement which was unusual. I still feel he is one of the best in the division and with that punching power he always has a chance.

It was a C+ grade card but UFC 211 next and what a card that is:

Miocic vs Dos Santos
Maia vs Masvidal
Edgar vs Rodriguez
Pettis vs Cejudo
Alvarez vs Poirer
