Llorente

I haven't watched much of Swansea this season, but I'm watching the game today and I have to say - I haven't seen any evidence that Llorente is likely to be an adequate replacement for Costa. Conte must know Llorente pretty well, so of course I trust his judgement if the rumours are true. But it seems a bit bizarre to me. There can't be many decent options in January it seems.

Llorente is average. If we're replacing Costa we should be going for Aubameyang, Dybala or Lacazette.

surely whatever the tiff with costa, and whatever the offer from china, you don't sell him now?

agree a fee with the chinese, sure, but he can't leave now? if need be give diego a pay rise to the end of the season to keep him moderately happy, but don't sell him.

because the quality of player you need to replace him - broadly in line with cesc + costa's list - just isn't available in january, and they'd all be cup-tied for the CL too.

ha, you give me too much credit...in my saturday afternoon slumber i had completely forgotten you were out of it this year (!)

sorry...but anyway you might be able to get aubemayang for £50-80m in the summer, but i doubt you could get him right now. and there's no guarantee those players could a) slot straight into your system and b) adapt to the PL immediately.

diego obviously is pretty nifty with his feet, but very strong and good in the air - as good as aguero is for instance, he couldn't do all of that himself.

so give the big man a pay rise till the end of the season, then take the £80m on offer, but sit tight for now.

Can they be obtained in January? Doubt it. The likes of Barca and Real have been linked with Dybala so doubt we'd have much chance of signing him even in the summer.

If we're looking for a PL striker as a short term fix I'd be tempted to go for Charlie Austin although he's currently injured.

Costa said it himself that he is not interested in moving to China. However if the Chinese come back in ghetto summer then I wouldn't take less than £80m for him.
Icardi could be available for £50m, he is more than capable of filling Costa's shoes.

If we say no the Chinese team might go after someone else though. 80m for Costa is crazy money, it's more than Liverpool sold Suarez for.

Think Lacazette definitely could, and like Ping Pong dude said, Icardi is another one. I didn't think Dortmund were doing that well this year either so even Aubameyang could be OK. Plus after selling Oscar and maybe Costa, we do kind of have a lot of money.

Sorry - I didn't mean this to devolve into a conversation about Costa possibly going to China. And I didn't mean to suggest that Llorente would be the man to replace Costa if he left. I was just discussing the rumour that we were interested in bringing in Llorente to possibly add to our squad. When I said "replace" Costa, I just meant as a possible sub, or if Costa were injured. He just doesn't seem a better option that what we have already.
