Woeful ...

No other word to describe our performance. I'm sick of seeing Gabby on the teamsheet, Bruce needs to realise he it utter dog Sh&*e !!! Midfield to is soo lightweight. We are miles off the better teams in the league which is shocking considering we sent 50 odd million in the summer .. Not good enough !!!

Yes. You were dire. I can't see you having any chance now of getting into the play-offs. The top six are decent teams and getting the points.

Why did Bruce not pair Gestede with McCormack? (Gestede was a donkey.. but he could have worked during the African nations).

Why does he still play Gabby? (Who has a goal scoring record worse than Heskey).

How is Hutton still playing for you?

Not the sort of questions a top six would be asking.

Simple answer. We're trying to get in another 4 players. We can see why.Two midfielders and a forward minimum.

How has Alan Hutton been our first choice right back for so long? The less said about Gabby the better. If we lose anyone decent in the summer (Amavi, Ayew, Grealish, Kodijah) we could feasibly drop into relegation territory. We can't even get into the top half with the current crop. How we are ever going to get back to being a top half PL team I don't know.

It was clear that we would not get out of this league this season before Xmas, and probably from day one.

Bruce has improved things slightly but we cant pass the ball cant beat players cant defend properly and we are prone to errors at the back.

Our goalscoring record is so poor that we will be a bottom half club

Lets build towards next season now big clear out this month if possible and in summer.......we should not go down so start the rebuilding now.......minimum spend and play the youngsters.

Wolves and Birmingham will be with us next year too, its not so bad.

No point ranting no point clutching at straws were not good enough and we have to accept it for now.

There are better sides than us who will go up and compete in the play-offs good luck to them

Some observations from tonight and the last few games:

1 - LACK OF QUALITY Our biggest problem is an alarming lack of quality. How we spend £60 and look like a poor quality team at this level, is astounding. It wasn't just Wolves who looked to be of superior quality to us though. I watched Leeds v Derby last night and both teams looked light years ahead of us, in terms of comfort on the ball, passing ability and vision. Even Derby, who had a bad night, looked a lot better than we do, consistently.

Grealish has quality on the ball but he has to stop strolling about, moaning at refs and getting stuck in. Andre Green also looks to have quality and a trick on the ball. When we are SO devoid of quality footballers, I would like to see Green given a run in the team.

2 - OUR SQUAD LOOKS THREADBARE! We couldn't even name a full bench tonight and there were no defenders on the bench. How on earth can we spend £60m on a squad and it be threadbare in January? To head off any smart answers, De Laet, Baker, Richards and I assume Cissokho are out. Kodjia and Ayew are away. Ok, so why can we not name seven substitutes?

3 BIZARRE TEAM SELECTION numbers 1 and 2 are not Brucie's fault. This is though. Ok, as I've hinted at, Brucie 's options are limited, but is there any excuse for making Gabby an automatic choice? Or playing Bacuna ahead of Grealish or Green? Picking Westwood consistently? Answer - no. In particular, with Kodjia and Ayew away, selling Gestede and freezing out Hepburn-Murphy and Kozak, surely we HAD to bring in a short-term loan immediately.

4 - REALITY MUST KICK IN We are not going to reach the play offs. This season has to be about consolidation (as I have always said) and not becoming sacked into a relegation battle. From what I have seen, there is at least a dozen better teams than Villa at this level, including Wolves.

For the rest of this season, firstly we must hope that we can get Lansbury and/or Hourihane over the line. Robbie Brady would be excellent and hopefully Brucie can pull out one of those deadline plums, he always seemed to manage at Blues. Let's try to become more expansive and show faith in Andre Green and Keenan Davis, for two. Let's try to bring back a buzz to Villa Park. Play at full throttle and win a couple of blessed away games.
