Monk is keeping things in perspective

Good to hear Monk praising the performance and noting where we need to improve, at the same time. The fact is, all our great work yesterday could have been undone by an equaliser, because we did not put our chances away. Bartley, Doukara, Vieira and Pablo all missed gilt-edged chances. As significant as this win is, we have to acknowledge that it should have been 3 or 4 nil.
This is not to ignore the amazing progress we have made under Monk, Pep and Beattie this season. We have improved in every aspect of the game. But I do think a decent striker is the number one priority. I said earlier I was surprised we didn't move for Winnall. Perhaps we have someone else on our radar who is going to eclipse that lost opportunity. Monk has shown time and again this season that he gets it right and his honest and measured comments yesterday show that he is not getting carried away with that performance, even though the rest of us are still in disbelief. Even Jonty has been stunned into silence. We must be doing well!

Going to get rinsed for this, I'm sure, but what about getting Matt Smith back? Can play the Wood role, would have had a bag full with all those delicious crosses Hernandez and Roofe were putting in on Friday. Fairly young lad, good personality, would learn from Wood. Just a thought

Why would you be rinsed for a sensible suggestion

He popped into my mind this morning and thought he'd be a perfect squad player for us at this moment

But am not convinced about going back for players

Ruphio - I was a big fan of Smith, gave 100% and do not think he wanted to go. - idea is not silly at all.

Where is smith now, sounds like a good non disruptive addition.

He is at Fulham. Scored 2 in 15 games this year, but not many starts. They may want to keep hold of him if/when Chris Martin leaves.

Sorry Don
Even Mr Revie regretted not bringing in Harvey sooner.
On topic. Team spirit is clearly evident and in tandem with the fanbase, so no massive overhaul required. As others have said to nail down Monk, his backroom staff and the loanees is a massive priority. Any signings need to be a) better than what we have or b) to give us options to change things. Trust in the Monk I say.

Don't we still have Lee Erwin?

Smith is a great shout! Intelligent lad who can stick decent crosses in the net.

Need players who add to what we have, not just cover for when they are needed. Look at Winnall and the Wendies. Good debut at the weekend by all accounts. Do you think he 'upset' the team, or does his arrival make them more competitive?

Can't believe people are saying replace Green. Surely he's been one of the reasons for our success? A massive improvement on Silvestre for me. He had some clangers at the last art of the season but they have generally stopped. I think Doukara put him under pressure in Friday too with that silly back pass.

I do think we need a back up for Wood though. If he was injured I think we'd struggle to replace him at the moment.
