John Stones panto booing

Was strange to see John back at Goodison yesterday, watching him warm up and the ripples of polite applause from the stands....

To be followed 30 minutes later with pantomime booing

Glad we took three points in an impressive win, but apart from the unlucky rebound from Coleman, was Stones at fault for any of the goals? I can't say he was, great player in a system that makes him the focus for any errors-just like his time with us.

He was poor yesterday though, positionally poor, sliced a few clearances, between him and bravo put city under pressure by overplaying.

Listen the guy carries the ball well but you should be cheering the guy because £50 million for him is an absolute con.

He could have done a lot better for the 3rd goal, after Davies lays it off Stones puts him on his backside, but when Davies gets back up Stones has been completely dragged out of position following the ball and left Davies with an acre of space to run into. He has to trust Otamendi in that position to put pressure on the ball and not leave so much space for the oppo to run into.

Stuff it though, Tom deserved that goal from his performance yesterday!!!

Sorry you are right. He possibly was at fault for the third going after the ball.

But the other three, he was just very unlucky with the bounce from Coleman.

He was horrifically unlucky with that deflection, he was doing exactly what all defending purists would have wanted him to do, put it into row Z.

I still think he is going to become a proper player, but I worry for him that his development as a defender will be hampered by being under another manager who appreciates his obvious comfort on the ball but maybe doesn't drill proper defending basics into him.

I still maintain a year or two under Koeman could have done him the world of good. Cracking defender to learn from, and possibly someone to model himself on. Not sure he's a free kick taker in the same mold though!
