Messi to Man City??

I think would be catastrophic to Barca and hope i don't see the day he leaves that club.

If paper reports are correct that some correspondence took place between both clubs then i'd have to say that their must be a cue of clubs waiting as big as the great wall of China.

I can't see it happening and i hope not anyway.

I've often thought about Messi's long term future and thought if he want's to experience life and football outside Barcelona why not loan him out for a season or at a stretch maximum 2 seasons?

The wee man is a footballing god and taking him away from Barca is like removing the pope from Rome and permanently stationing him elsewhere, it just doesn't make sense.

I'm sure the wee man's happy with Barca life and if Messi left i'm not sure that Barca would recover from such loss.

City more likely to get Rakatic than Messi.

Unless the tax man cometh....

agreed, between barca's spending constraints and an aggressive spanish tax man - can't recall a PL player being chased by HMRC - this one is not entirely beyond the realms.

and we'd all love it, get to see him more often, see if he really can shine in a different league, no idea why him staying at the same club for his entire career is seen as a good thing for the neutral. the OP already seems to support 3 clubs, now he doesn't want barca to suffer, all very touching.

I can't claim to have written this but I do think it sums up the Messi gossip nicely

WHAT’S THAT? MESSI TO MANCHESTER CITY? AGAIN?

It’s quite easy working in Manchester City’s PR department, isn’t it? No matter what disaster befalls the club, be it catastrophic defeat at Everton or every single member of the squad handing in their notice on the same day, there is an easy way out of the mess.

“Karen, it’s happened again,” PR Dave says to his colleague.

“Oh no, again?” Karen replies. “Why can’t they just win a few games and get back into the title race?”

“Dunno Karen, but ours is not to reason why. You know what we have to do.”

“Leak some guff about us signing Lionel Messi, you mean? But hasn’t the player repeatedly said that he won’t play for another European club?”

“Don’t worry about that. Everyone seems to deliberately forget that. It’s easy clicks, you see.”

The difference this time is that Messi only has another year on his contract.

And supposedly relationships have broken down with him and the club over the tax issues he's faced.

He might decide to go.

Although I'm sure he's said in the past that he'd want to go back to Argentina and play for his hometown club (Newell's Old Boys I think) when he leaves Barca.

90% chance him signing a new contract, imo, but the club itself has acknowledged they're having trouble reaching an agreement due to their salary cap.

This was already given as the reason it took thm so long to sign Neymar's new deal last year, but the found a way. Presumably they'll find a way with Messi too.
