Van Basten's "great" ideas.

He works with FIFA now and has proposed some quite frankly ridiculous ideas to improve football.

1. Scrap offside rule. What a plant pot. Although you could argue United already have.

2. Sin bins and orange cards.

3. Getting rid of extra time completely. This is the only idea of his that has any merit for me.

4. Scrapping two halves and having 4 quarters. Sod off with the American rubbish already.

5. Old school mls style penalties where you dribble from half way line.

This guy is getting paid by Fifa for this rubbish. Clearly shows Fifa hasn't changed one bit despite Septic Sepp Pratter being fired.

Football doesn't need radical changes. Its already far in front of every other sport globally.

Marco been on some of Amsterdam's finest herb I reckon.

Why are people so quick to rid the game of talking points?

------------------------------------------------------

People are keen to see the big decisions being called correctly. I would've thought that was obvious.

------------------------------------------------------

If we had video tech for everything decisions would obviously improve but what do fans have to talk about then?

-------------------------------------------------------------

There would ideally be a boundary or a restriction on what type of decision could be challenged or flagged up by an official on the sideline.

Would you seriously have nothing else to talk about if officials got the majority of decisions right?

Talking points are fine but when a linesman can't even spot someone who is a few yards offside or a ref gives a pen for a blatantly obvious dive then something needs to be done. The officials in the last few seasons have been awful, why should that be accepted just because it will give us "talking points"?

Ditch the marginal offsides, only blantant ones. Let the game flow

Players receive treatment on the pitch during the game like in rugby, will stop the play actors. If the injury is serious then by all means stop the game

Ditch the league cup and have league cups, cups for each individual leagues, would give championship and lower league teams that take cups seriously a chance to win something

".........Offside rules date back to codes of football developed at English public schools in the early nineteenth century. These offside rules, which varied widely between schools, were often much stricter than the modern game. In some of them, a player was "off his side" if he was standing in front of the ball."

Moaning about a penalty you didn't get or a dive that was missed by ref for other team is part of the game. It's also a massive part of banter between fans.

People want football to be 100% perfect and it will kill the enjoyment.

Leave it alone. It's good the way it is.

My Dutch isn't perfect, but I'm pretty sure Marco Van Basten actually translates to English as Mark Has Badideas.

I don't but officials should be getting the key decisions right and technology can only help in achieving that.

And on the basis of this season, they need it.

One for UEFA this but maybe instead of getting rid of extra-time completely, lift the away goal rule in extra-time in two legged knockout ties.

It's not that fair on the home side in the 2nd leg when the away side has an extra half hour to score an away goal.
______________

I completely agree...been saying this for years. I never understood why SAF preferred to have a home tie in the second leg of a knockout where away goals can be a deciding factor.

"Sin bins and orange cards."

Sin bins are stupid imo but I would be in favour of pink cards for diving!

I also can't stand the ruling that says retrospective punishment cannot apply if the ref issued a yellow card at the time. This is the dumbest rule in football imo.
