'Real' Progress?

There's no doubt Tottenham have progressed in recent seasons.

Finishing 3rd last season and currently sitting in 2nd - you do look a force capable of giving anyone in the league a good game. In my personal opinion (and I'm sure many others) you have the best defence in the league.

A young squad and young manager would suggest you'll only keep improving - but my only worry for you is will it last?

It's common knowledge you're a selling club, when the big boys come knocking; there's normally only one outcome. Just to name a few:

Bale to Madrid
Modric to Madrid
Carrick to United
Berbatov to United

Considering how you've progressed over the last 2 years, do you trust the club wouldn't sell your best players? If United came in for Kane/Ali if City came in for Rose/Toby what do you think would happen?

If we DID sell a top player to a DOMESTIC rival then I would be very hard pushed to continue supporting the club.

One thing is certain Levy will no longer entertain selling to a rival club and strengthening their team.

We have in Pochettino, a very good manager who is building the team in his way. I believe Levy is of the view that he must leave that side alone and manage the build on the new stadium.

Incidentally Poch has apparently had a lot of influence in designing certain parts of the ground.

If, and of course it is a big if, we start winning trophies and sustaining our CL challenges over the next few years, then I think we could still see Poch at Spurs in 4-5 years time.

As for the new stadium, that in itself influences Levy's thinking strongly. No good having the newest and finest ground in the country if the team does not perform at the top level too!

The thing is if a Barca/Madrid do come calling for Kane/Alli we will get a fee north of £100m.

Given the new stadium, our current position and Levy being willing to start raising the wage cap we could get a top level replacement

We could also keep them, go on to better things and Poch has a great skill in bringing younger players through!

I don't think Spurs are anymore a selling club than any other at the moment.

They have a real chance of winning major silverware with the current squad.

Throw the new stadium into the mix, with all the benefits that come with it and you get a sense that Spurs will be putting pots in the cabinet before long.

I don't really see how a move to another domestic club represents a step up at the moment. Players like Kane and Alli will have plenty of opportunities to realise their ambitions at Spurs I reckon. Especially if they keep hold of Pochettino.

No need to worry about us. Worry about your own team.

Interesting views, thank you

Some people seemed to think I was on the WUM - I really wasn't. Yes, I've named players from some time ago, but I was merely listing your BEST players sold (as that was the point of the article).

What is noticeable is that Levy successfully opted out of selling Modric to Chelsea. People forget the significance of this but is was a red line they have kept to. I think it's likely he would have successfully resisted selling Bale to another Premiership team too.

The club is in a stronger position than when Berbatov was sold too Man United. And an infinitely stronger position than when Carrick was sold to them many years ago. Manchester United is also a less attractive destination. As Spurs and Chelsea don't do any business the only real threat is Madrid.

I don't think too much about City as wages aside, I think a lot of top players see them as a bit Mickey Mouse. You hear players talk about how they want to join Chelsea or United sometimes, not City.
