Leeds Utd v Baarnsley Matchday Thread

Another Yorkshire derby, ....Another possible banana skin against a team who , without a doubt will be looking to grab the bragging rights against their more famous neighbours
So, all we need to do is deliver another display like the last one

Venue...Oakwell....Date..21st Jan ...Kick Off ..1730 (Half Five )

Team News
Leeds United
Pontus Jansson serves the final game of his two-match ban, while Charlie Taylor remains unavailable due to the hamstring injury he suffered before Christmas.
Monk is also optimistic that Liam Cooper will be fit to feature against Barnsley after suffering a leg injury in the FA Cup win over Cambridge.

Barnsley
manager Paul Heckingbottom hopes defender Marc Roberts will be fit if not Gethin Jones on loan from Everton could get a game.
Andy Yiadom is unavailable as he competes for Ghana in the African Nations Cup, while striker Sam Winnall was sold to Sheffield Wednesday last week.

Match facts
◾Barnsley have beaten Leeds in four of their last five home league games, but lost most recently in April 2014.
◾The Whites have won their last two league encounters against the Tykes - they have never beaten them three times in a row in their entire history.
◾Barnsley have scored exactly twice in five of their last six home league games.
◾Only Brighton (23) have collected more points in the last 10 Championship games than Leeds (22).
◾The Tykes have conceded the most penalties in the Championship this campaign (8).

Barnsley will be looking to put Tuesdays Cup defeat against Blackpool behind them and will definitely be up for this one, let's hope there's a few tired legs in red shirts
I'm going for a sneaky 0-2 Scoreline on this one, with Pablo and Roofe finding their scoring boots

Over to You.................Predictions, Scorers etc ...............We might get a few Barnsley Lads on here so humour them and try and keep it friendly

Come Onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn Leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeds!!!

Tribute ....................
Mark Gawthorpe, 50, from Horbury in Wakefield, died on Wednesday after suffering a heart attack and his fellow fans hope a 5,000-strong away end at Barnsley tomorrow will join in to celebrate his life. Friend Darren Powell, from Kettlethorpe, said: “We all lost our best mate on Wednesday and he was a massive Leeds fan. We’ve been all over the country, up and down, with him. “We’re asking all Leeds fans for a minute of applause at the 50 minute mark to remember him. “We are all one big family so I reckon everyone will join in. We’re all buzzing for it."

Three great goals by Barnsley, our penalty was fortunate as handball was outside the box. Nothing like the intensity shown against Derby and we paid the price. Can't win them all, but any hopes of autos are very faint now.

Well said. Bit of praise for a team of league 1, 2 and non league players. Good luck fella

Barnsley were pretty good, it was a cup final to them and they played the occasion. Deserved result. Poor officials tonight for.BOTH sides not just us. Poor subs by Monk too

Reality check for us. The result will not disguise the fact that we were second best for most of the game. Don't know why Antonsson wasn't brought in. Highlights the need to strengthen the squad. However, Oakwell is a bogey ground for us and I fully expect us to learn from this and pick up against Forest.

Was never gonna be an easy game especially without Pontus at the back. They did exactly what Derby did last week just after half time, difference being we were caught seriously napping.

We lost for the 1st time since last month and I'm netting ng it'll be a while b4 we lose again.

That does actually include Hudds who I'm backing us to beat.

Be reēêt👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

To finish on a brighter note, O'Kane put in a decent shift late on. Might be worth putting him for the Forest game?
