Is this just delaying the inevitable?
How much is all of this costing the taxpayer?

That would mean a change for "Team GB" of course, reverting to just plain "Team B". Which is probably about right.

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland has a lot of words that might interest Trump.

Wait till Trum finds out that Idi Amin's full title was His Excellency, President for Life, Field Marshal Al Hadji Doctor Idi Amin Dada, VC, DSO, MC, Lord of All the Beasts of the Earth and Fishes of the Seas and Conqueror of the British Empire in Africa in General and Uganda in Particular and Last King of Scotland.
(Ok, Last King of Scotland was unofficial.)

The UK will surely have to take whatever the US offer? And they know it.
We may have to sell them our 'Great', that's gotta be worth a few bob. We downgrade to just plain vanilla "Britain", they become "(It'll be) Great United States".
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Trump would actually go for that
----------------------------------------------------------------------
"We're gonna make America greater than ever, believe me. It's true, it's true <smirks and nods>
"We're gonna improve the name of our great nation bigly. From now on, we're gonna call our great nation Great America!
"It's gonna be incredible, I promise."

As Trump has already demonstrated by way of his executive orders, he wishes to put US companies, jobs, interests etc etc first. Trump wants to end free trade agreements. Ceding to the remit of the WTO’s arbitrary (dispute) jurisdiction is therefore extremely unlikely.
Can anyone honestly see Trump forcing the US Agri industry to abandon their thresholds in regard to additives, (hormones) and artificial/chemically enhanced (bio) foods to help our “special relationship” ?
===========
Going public so early (why btw?) and confirm that the UK will have to leave the single market make any negotation with the US even more harder for UK to get the best deal.
If anything, May's visit to the US look more like a desperate act to try and rescue some kind of trade deal and I'm sure Trump and his team will be fully aware of it.

I'm convinced many of these global "trade" excursions are aimed to placate public confidence.
