So the missus and I went to see La La Land the other day and it was incredible. A musical for people who don't like musicals. Not usually a fan of Ryan Gosling but he deserves an Oscar for this IMO. And Emma Stone is her usual excellent self. Totally recommend it.
The Oscar nominations are announced today and this is expected to sweep the board.
What movies have you loved that did win Oscars and which movies should have won them but didn't - most famously Pulp Fiction and Goodfellas.

Personally not interested in the film, I do like the director, but I don't care for musicals or Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. The only two musicals I do like are Dancer in the Dark and Hedwig and the Angry Inch. More often than not the music is too cheesy for me, and the songs just get in the way of the story progressing.
Neither do I care for the Oscars, which year after year is a circle jerk of rich and pretentious people.
I'm not even sure if I liked many movies from this year. Theres a few I haven't seen like Arrival, but most of what I saw was garbage. I kinda feel cinema in general is going down hill.

Nice to see Michael Shannon and Jeff Bridges both up for best supporting actor, probably the best 2 performances this year.
