What pearls of wisdom have you collected over the years? Did any work or fail spectacularly.
An old boy once told me that if you were about to be attacked by a dog, you should stand very still and point at a spot right in the middle of its head just above its eyes. Apparently any dog will just cower and lie down immediately if you do that.
Fortunately I've never been in that position. Anyone else heard that or know if it's true?

There is a theory that your life flashing before your eyes in near death experience is your brain showing you everything you have ever experienced etc in the hope there is something useful that may help you survive.
So if I ever am trapped in a avalanche I fully expect the contents of this thread to come back to me in full
