PSVR and what you need to know

I have noticed that people still seem unclear on what PSVR is, what you need and what it offer's, so I'm typing this in the hope of clearing up any confusion.

PSVR is a headset that put's you inside the computer world, it is also 360 video compatible.

The headset costs £350, but you also NEED the camera (so if you haven't already got one you need to factor another £40 into the price) the Move controllers are optional, but I would highly recommend them, Move controllers £60, so £450 all in.

Setting up involves a lot of wires, it is not complicated but if you don't have the PS4 Pro, you will have to plug a wire into the USB at the front, the Pro has a USB. at the back so a bit neater, also PSVR is a tethered device, so you have a cable running to the headset (PSVR is not wireless)

one annoying factor, if You have a 4k HDR TV, you will need to swap the HDMI cable, to play the PS4 in HDR mode.

Space requirements are not that big, if you can sit 5 to 6ft from the TV you are good to go as long as you have room to lean, you can play all your PS4 games using the headset in theatre mode, ( like watching on a big theatre screen) but only VR games will offer the true VR experience, you don't need the TV on the same channel or even switched on, but if it is, people can watch what you are playing and even interact (very few games) if you want them to.

The headset display is 1080p resolution, but it is shared between both lenses, so not as high rez as the more expensive offerings, but Sony use a different display tech which surprisingly leads to little screen door effect (the ability to identify the individual pixels) and for a first gen device is more than adequate.

The headset is well designed and confortable for long periods of play, some people complain of fogging, I personally have never had an issue although my brother did for some reason (sweaty bu gger)

The graphics are full 360 up down and 3D, (although you cannot use it to watch 3d blu rays in 3d, a patch is coming to fix this) the immersion it creates is quite an experience.

Some people will suffer sickness, some games are worse than others, Movement is the biggest issue, but If you take it slow you can get your VR legs quite quickly and for many it isnt even an issue, my advice again, take it slow.

Games can cost anything from free to full price (and anything inbetween), My personal favourites have been Batman £16 (short but so sweet), Headmaster £16 (great with mates) ,Werewolves Within £24 a great take on a classic board game and of course Resident Evil 7 £42 off Amazon, (if you like scary you want to play this in VR). a side note, Resident Evil is the only one that will give you problems with motion sickness ( although it does offer some neat solutions to make it better) Oh and I enjoyed Until Dawn £16 (a scary shooter rollercoaster ride)

Just as a point of reference, Of my list only Batman, and Until Dawn use the Move controllers, but both can be played with just the controller (move just adds to the immersion)

I have numerous other games but those are my favourite, (My Mrs loves Tumble) £7 if I remember, also there is nothing stopping you looking in the VR section of the Playstation store, to see what available.

I was going to say they are available again at Amazon, but they are sold out again If anyone has any questions on anything I have missed by all means ask

The wife has been more impressed. I've only had a look in between her 1am finishing gaming sessions.

FYI, the London Heist on VR Worlds can also be played with the move controllers.

my wife has no interest in gaming, but she will spend hours in tumble, it was funny seeing her reaction to the Kitchen demo.

She watches horror all the time with me, but it was too much for her.

Oh welcome aboard

Yeah the London Heist was fun, and the shark demo on the same disc is a great introduction to VR, but it didnt make my fave list so didnt mention it.

Not that it's bad mind.

Tesco was selling Star Wars battlefront for £10, which gives you access to the x-wing vr level. Keep talking and nobody explodes is a good one for parties.

Yeah bought Star Wars battlefront just to play the demo, It's pretty good (Star Wars fans will love it)

Keep talking is another fun game, but I have it for the Gear VR, so haven't bothered with the PSVR Version.
