Whats the verdict on him on here??
Went to Notts County a few years back and was basically dragging them through games, 14 goals he got from midfield and the manager and chairman said he was the best player to play for them in years.
Started well under Deila scored a few goals in Europe and domestically then got a Scotland call up.
Then the boo boys rounded on him as the team slumped and he was hardly seen again under Deila that season.
Came back in last season and despite good stats never seemed to win the fans over,.
This season he started again in Europe and looked out his depth alongside Armstrong who also looked short of what was required i can remember away in Astana the 2 of them were hiding from the game.
fast forward 4/5 months and the crowd have slightly eased off him and he's been producing some solid showings not quite to the level of Armstrong but good enough to be in and round our starting 11.
He still splits opinion and I think the Rangers game was proof of why, first half when the chips were down he wasnt up to much, 2nd half when we were in the ascendancy he was arguably our best midfielder.
Big statement though from Rodgers starting him in the game.
What do we all make of him?
I think he's a great squad player, used in the right games hes a match winner, he moves the ball quickly, has decent vision, bits of trickery and pops up with the odd goal but don't think he's gonna get any better than he currently is
Calum McGregor

Griffiths will need to knuckle down or he'll be out.

I like him, although if everyone is fit I don't see him starting that often.

McGregor suffers for his versatility like so many good players before him from McNamara to Riseth.
Notts County gave him the run of the midfield and he looked brilliant making powerful direct runs.
He has replaced Mulgrew as our swiss army man on the bench, its certainly an upgrade and I'm glad we have them.
The one thing you can say about McGregor is that he can do everything pretty well. He is an accurate passer, powerful runner, good dribbler, clinical finisher, strong tackler.
I agree that he shouldn't start every week, as our midfielders have well defined roles and we have specialist midfielders who are all better at their individual roles. But I think its faur to say that he might be our most complete player. There is no other player in our squad with as many attributes, every one else has at least one obvious weakness.

Good squad player as you say.
Does some lovely pieces of skill and quality passing, yet for every good thing he does he often tries to be too clever, trying a thru ball when the striker has no chance to get to it etc.
Doesn't seem much of a fan of the physical side of the game either, getting stuck in.
Despite his flaws I like him as a player but we have better than him at the club who should be starting ahead of him. Want to see Henderson start ahead of him this weekend.. Wee but more composure on the ball.

Can't stand mcgregor starting for us - a very weak player who is easily maneovered off the ball, is a missing jersey if up against it, quick footed but generally flatters to deceive with little end product. However he's actually been good at times this season when called upon and scored some important goals - as others have said this quality in reserve is what gives us such strength in depth. Have never booed a Celtic player in my life and never will but always disappointed when he starts a game.
