Is Valencia worth visiting?

It's doing okay at right back, works hard, tracks back well, but it's final ball is very hit and miss and it has no left foot.

But Is the beach area worth visting if you're not into a beach type holiday?

For instance I thought the beach area in Malaga was underwhelming.

Also are there any notable days out from valencia?

Showers are great there.

But also...

The old town
The great beach
The Mestalla
The old city walls
It's where Paella was invented
Great shopping
Incredible park which was once the Turia river bed
Biggest Oceanarium in Europe
Bioparc which is IMO the best zoo in Europe
Great clubs and bars on the beach
Amazing looking women
Shops open till late
The Fallas festival in March is apparently the best party in Europe.

To add

The Beach is 10 to 12 mins maximun by bus from the city center. Not far. We party hard and very late, disco start by 3am, close from 7 to 8 or 9am depending when you are drunk. Good road nextwork, so many places to visit also. Ohh the part about Amazing looking women, so so true, so many good looping women not like the fat ones you guys have over there in UK. Class and willing. Not too cheap a city bit not too expensive.

Re: the beach being too far from the City centre, aren't most beaches far from city centres? Ever been to Sydney?!

Taxis are plentiful in Valencia. I've been to cities all over the world and apart from New York, I've never seen so many taxis. They are uber cheap (no pun intended). Will cost you just €6/7 euros to go to the beach from the centre and is a great drive parallel with the river bed park and past the city of arts and science.

The train service in Spain is second to none and you can go to Vila-Real (the home of Villarreal) which is just an hours train ride north. Not a whole lot o do but if you're a football fan it's worth seeing just how amazingly well this club have done even though the population of their town could fit into St James' Park.

and there is a direct train on that same route to Barcelona. Takes about 3 hours.

Was considering a Barca-Val holiday but think the former might be too much of a tourist trap

Depends when you go.

For example Valencia in March and Valencia in July/August is a touristy time but is dead in June (great time to go btw - far too hot in July)

Barcelona is the same.
