The race for top 4

Crazy that by the end of today it's likely there will be just 4 points separating 2nd from 6th.

I personally thought we'd be above Liverpool by now, but fair play to them, they turned Spurs over and dragged them back into the fight for a top 4 finish.

So. Will we finish top 4 ?

Our run in is quite easy considering under LVG last season we won most of these games except 3 away games.

For a team with such a p1$$ poor squad, we are currently above City and United, and 1 point off 2nd with 13 games to play, all this after having a pretty disastrous run of results since the beginning of 2017.
Doesn't say much for the rest of the top 6 beside Chelsea then does it, it terms of their squads, this seasons prem, and next season Champions League.

That's far too sensible for this lot.

To be honest after Liverpool late winner against Everton and our doom and gloom games its hard to believe we are only 1 point below Liverpool.

are you really this dense, or just pretending?

you can get top 4 with a decent first 13-14; to be successful in a range of competitions you need to have a decent 18-20.

so if you intend to throw the FA Cup/milk cup every year, that would help. if not your current squad doesn't look capable of securing top 4 plus competing - ie playing a strong team - in all the cups.

if you finish 5th or below your season will have been pretty underwhelming - no silverware (for, what, the 11th time in 12 seasons), a half decent cup run in the lesser trophy, embarrassment in the FA Cup, and no europe.

so laugh it up all you want, but your current squad with european commitments on top would struggle to finish in the top 6 in the PL.

If you look at the goals we conceded recently, Mata OG world class finish, Pogba stupid handball for penalty ad a soft penalty against Hull and a late cross to hull, we are allowing extremely very little against us.

We are the most dominant side Jose Mourinho has managed in creation.

The last time you managed to finish top 4 2 seasons running was 8 seasons ago. you have finished in the top 5 once in 7 seasons. and your squad is no stronger - and arguably weaker - than during much of that time.

that's far too sensible for you lot apparently.

Are their owners known for splashing cash?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes. Managers have always been backed. They let Rodgers spend loads, he just didn't spend it particularly well. So far, Klopp has decided not to spend big. He's pretty much justified it, though I do think he underestimated how much our thin squad would be stretched during our fixture congestion.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hmm well will be an interesting summer if you do spend that much. Out of interest who do you think/want to be brought in next transfer window?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think we need a proper goal scoring striker, to nick a goal when we're struggling to break teams down.

Someone similar to Mane, for obvious reasons.

A proper DM. Don't think Klopp wants one, but if we had someone even close to Kante, our defence wouldn't get so exposed, so often. I truly believe that if we had Kante, we could quite easily be where Chelsea are now.

Left back. Again, pretty obvious.

Those are the really necessary positions imo. Other possibles are a CB and a GK. But I don't think they're as important as some make out.

I'll be honest, I have no idea who the players should be, I'm not that knowledgeable on every European player!!

I don't think a goalkeeper is a must for you tbh, I think that's all got a bit silly with the constant slating of the pair of them. Surprised you feel a defender isn't a must though. I would have said a lb and cb were top priority for you.

Saying we'd benefit from not being in the CL.is exactly the kind of thing Barry writes.

Think about that.

A goal keeper is an absolute must. I would be amazed if Klopp doesn't look at it. Both Chelsea and Hull cost us points I feel.

IMO, the defence isn't as bad as some make out. I think they're left exposed more than they should be, and that's down to the midfield, hence the need for a proper DM. A dedicated LB is important. Milner's done very well, but can slow down attacks, which you wouldn't get with a pacey, natural left footer.
