Say what you want about him, by I've always been a fan of him.
He's not a player I'd want at Chelsea but that doesn't mean I don't rate him as a footballer.
I think he was brilliant at Madrid where he can run the game with his passing etc
But i think to do that in the premier league and also the very big games you have to be a very special kind of player and I can't really think of many names to have done it.
After seeing the stick yet again for him not turning up in the big games you have to ask the question, has he ever done that?
I don't think he has... maybe I'm wrong?
But I like Mesut Ozil as a player and as a rival fan of Arsenal I want him to stay there as I think it makes them weaker, but I like the man

I remember watching him being instrumental in the destruction of our U-21s in the European Chapionships final for the young German side who'd go on to dominate at senior level. He's a hugely gifted player but clearly isn't at his best in this league. Not just that as I don't think he's fulfilled his potential, Madrid accepted a healthy fee but not out of this world, even in Spanish football they deemed it acceptable.

I'm not entirely comfortable with the idea of a German given so much freedom at any sort of Arsenal.

He is a pure form player that feeds of the performance of the rest of the team. Form is temporary, class is permanent and he is a truly world class player

That phrase gets banded about like it's absolute, he's been below the bar he set himself for a similar duration he put in performances which set that bar, and during his peak years.
