Slap a Player

Following on from the critically acclaimed and award winning Slap a Pundit Series, we now would like to introduce "Slap a Player".

This is a chance for the general public to nominate football players that they feel need a good honest slap.

Obviously we don't condone wanton violence in any shape or form and believe peace is the way forward.

However this is just a firmly planted restorative slap across the cheek and gob, not incorporating the excessive use of force and with the understanding that it will be for the benefit of the player's development as opposed to satisfying some voyeuristic pleasure in seeing people that work hard to provide us entertainment week in and week out unnecessarily suffer.

The rules are thus:

You can't slap one of your own aka no Derby players can be slapped, you can however as a compromise offer strongly placed positive words of encouragement and support to our players.

Anyone else from the professional world of football can be nominated for a slap.

People are allowed to justify their reasoning for said player getting a slap but it is not essential just the name itself is suffice.

Working Example Only:

Nominee: Raheem Sterling

Reason: For Diving a tad too much. For that whining entitled yelping facial expression he pulls when diving. Not being near world class which would afford him the privilege of diving with impunity.

One of our own: Craig Bryson

"Dear Craig. You've put in some shifts for Derby in your career, we still love you, can I suggest maybe saving yourself some energy by reading the game a little bit here and there, playing behind the ball from time to time, holding your position so players can't waltz past you easier than they bypass Butters, Hughes and Camara. I wish you well young man and believe by increasing your reaction time to 5 seconds ahead of play as opposed to 5 seconds behind the play you would be adding something very appealing to your overall game. I believe this could save you lots of energy, allow you to re-find that form of a few seasons ago and help heal some of the wounds of being left out of the QPR game. Go Scotland."

Work away people.

question for you all..

if we were to jam our way to a playoff final and win it,would you want to go to the promised land with our lot.i know you say we d invest in new players ,but how many would we have to change.?

im normally an optimistic chap but even i think we ll finish outside the playoffs..we are carrying that much dross and any type of injury to most posistions on the park we wouldnt be able to compete..

It could be the only way we can afford to reinvest in the squad. We've spent heavily in the last 18 months and I don't think there's any £££'s left so unless we sell Hughes and Ince the only way we are going to have serious money to spend is if we go up. Clement and pearsons spending as set the club back big time

Just stay optimistic Diamond. I find that whatever I may think, Derby have a way of doing something all of their own anyway.

I think it is now time for a Match Thread

thats the thing heb..

we are always optimistic..we are derby...

do you think players have this notion that they are just about good enough for the championship but if they got us to the prem they would know for sure that they would be unemployed before the start of the season??

Nervously straying into footy territory here....

We keep having this "the Championship is better and do we really want to go up" discussion. This compounded last season with confused messages about "building" and "no pressure to go up" Not that this prevented sacking managers etc.

Players? They must know realistically if they are Upper Championship/ Premier/Scottish Premier standard and have planned accordingly.....And the best will want to be Premiership players, with Derby.

That means you Will.

Mind you, "I'd far rather be happy than right any day"*

If Mel had bought some of the dross players (as diamond puts it) on the credit card, we could have claimed they were faulty and got a refund. As it is, the only real assets, that could fund a promotion push, are the crown jewels of Hughes, Ince & Lowe. Exactly the players you'd want to take up to the Prem with you.

Peeder & View must be on holiday, or maybe they think the season's over already ?

This is what I meant. Only you seem to know the players names and all....
