After enjoying last night's Sutton - Arsenal game and watching what the FA Cup is about, watching a bunch of regular people going toe to toe with megastars and millionaires, I feel like the magic has been ruined a little bit today with their reserve goalkeeper being forced out due to a gambling issue.
It's a bit of fun, and to be honest if a few gambling companies lose out of a few quid because they thought it'd be a laugh to joke about some fat player eating a pie, who cares? Now a regular guy has lost his job.
It's just ludicrous that this is brought up as a scandal, yet nobody seems to see the ridiculous transfer rumour - betting triangle that occurs!
For example, Sky sources say Muller will be joining United through sky sports news, Skybet offer odds about Muller joining United, people put money on the transfer happening which just goes to Sky because Sky made the rumours up in the first place!
It's just a bit of a joke.

If it proven that this fat lad conspired to make money out of this then he should be looking at the same treatment as the Pakistan cricket players who were jailed for bowling no balls.

What about people who bet he wouldn't eat a pie, and he wasn't caught eating one, surely you could say he had a hand in that too? Therefore he's stuck either way?

Don't think you could bet that he wouldn't eat a pie though, just that he would so he wouldn't be done for not eating one.
Think the bigger disappointment about the yesterday is that all the media attention leading up to and since the game has been about a reserve goalkeeper just because he's 40+ and overweight, and not the players who actually played and worked their a$$es off to get into the last 16.

Pretty ridiculous. If a bookie is going to offer stupid bets like that, then what do they think's going to happen?
I remember a bookie offering odds on Bellamy celebrating a goal with a golf swing, after his set to with Riise. He promptly did said celebration. Don't think that was investigated

Those no balls lead to nothing. Matt Le Tissier admitted he used to kick the ball out of touch to make a few buck. He got away with that.
What if he choked on the pie and needed to go to hospital and then the number one keeper is red carded or injured?

Sutton themselves should be ashamed too. I'm sure they had no objection to him cleaning the dig outs and working on the pitch free of charge

If it's true that rag's betting arm lost a significant amount because of this then I can't help but laugh. Any bookie offering odds on such a ridiculous thing deserves to be taken for everything they've got. As for the keeper himself. He's admitted his mates put money on it. It wouldn't be a surprise if any of this money filtered through to him to help with his resignation.
