The PL in Europe

While tonight's win doesn't state that the PL is having a golden era in Europe I think the league might be on the way back.

The biggest problem in past years for me was having poor managers. The likes of Pep, Jose, Conte, Klopp and co IMO will have the PL clubs in Europe be savvy enough to see out games like tonight when lesser managers would probably have found it hard to get a draw let alone a win.

Once Wenger goes I feel Arsenal will do well in Europe, and so will the other PL sides.

Ravaged by injury? they had 11 internationals playing and the one midfield replacement cost over 40 mill. Not exactly scraping the barrel.

Most top teams can put out 11 internationals and still be significantly weakened..

Ye but losing 3 players and replacing them with internationals isn't being ravaged by injury.

I agree, City would be more than happy to lose David Silva and replace him with England international Fabian Delph. That won’t make the weaker because he is an internationalist.

The midfield replacement for Barcelona cost over 40 mill.

The more a player costs, the better he is. Torres became such a good player for Chelsea, having been underwhelming throughout his career at Atletico and Liverpool. Likewise, Shevchenko was a relative unknown until arriving at Stamford Bridge, where he was unlucky to miss out on WPOTY...

I'd mention Carroll and Depay, but I think I've already made my point.

But your reasoning for city winning so far have been it was a dead rubber and injuries. Not giving city much credit. I'm just giving my reasons why I disagree. If city or even united had 3 players missing and lost a game, I doubt many would be saying but they had injuries and that's why they lost.
Considering they haven't been that good this year with the injured players back. I think its fair to say they were just beaten by the better team on the day.

to be fair to city they have their best defender, and one of the very best in the league, almost permanently injured.

Injuries to key players are always used as an excuse (or at least acknowledged as a likely contributor) for a defeat.

Oftentimes when one of the big boys beats one of the others, the first thing fans of the losing side do is sight their injuries.

United fans still crow about Fletcher missing the 2009 CL final, like it would have made a difference.

We've had key players out all season too though.
