way? Meaning you did not think they would become the legend they did?
They came to your club, probably didn't want to be there, and it showed in their demeanour?
Or they just started off slow in terms of performances?
I believed it at the time anyway, but Drogba's own book backs up that he did not want to be at Chelsea and he felt that way for the first 2 years of his Chelsea career. It was apparently a text from Super Frank that persuaded him to stay.
Now? Undoubted club legend and nothing you could tell me would convince me he'd choose Marseille over Chelsea now.
Marcel Desailly was different. His performances to me were pretty great from the off. But he was winding me up a bit by his admissions that he did not really care much about Chelsea that again he cared more about Milan and Marseille's results than he did Chelsea's.
But since he's left, he said that it took him a while but he fell in love with Chelsea and was proud to captain us. He's got so Chelsea loved up now, that other pundits have called him blinkered live on air from time to time
And...............Perhaps more because he was being played on the wing......Super Frank himself had a slow start. IMO 02/03 was his step up season.
Although in his defence i was like a dog with 2 whatsnames from the day we signed him. So was my mum. She wasn't allowed to change the Sky channel from SSN until Chelsea announced we signed him. And that was my rule from the day it was announced his dad and uncle had been given the sack. Hey i paid the bill
Club Legends that did not start off that...

I'd never heard of Sami Hyypia when he signed and thought he was going to be another in a long line of Scandinavian defenders that we'd brought and would prove to be rubbish.
Turns out he was great and gave us a decade of service.
Agree re-Carra as well. Would never have guessed in a million years he would be a mainstay of our team for so many years.
I was just too young for this one but my dad always said Liverpool fans were stunned when the eccentric and often erratic Grobbelaar replaced the great Ray Clemence. 13 years, truck load of trophies and the spaghetti legs in a European Cup final - guess the scouts knew what they were doing!

Beat me to it by 8 minutes on Hyypia. Plucked from obscurity to become one of the PL's best defenders.

If you listened to the pundits then aguero wouldn't be a more exciting signing than Charlie Adams's, you wouldn't expect a pundit to pay an watch Kev de bruyn, David silva 24 million is he worth it "Harry rednapp" and yaya toure what can he do? He can't shoot or run a game "paul Merson"

I'm sure Silva and Aguero were hot property who everyone had eyes on before they chose City. The other two I agree with though, people were cautious of KDB because he was shipped out at Chelsea, forgetting that the man who shipped him out has never been a great promoter of youth.

Yeah he was cursed at first but look at the player he became.

Probably Eboue.

I dunno if he qualifies as a legend for his achievements on the pitch, but certainly his tenacity, resilience, and love for the club put him pretty high up. Lucas leiva definitely deserves a shout.
Been written off and hammered by the fans more times than anyone, and comes back and proves us wrong every single time.

shaun Goater. what a legend he became. The other one I have to say was Craig Bellamy. We had got the sheikh we had money to burn yet we go for a journeyman with a less than appealing history on good behavior. Turned out to be a player everyone would love in their team yet readily hate if you were in opposition.

I distinctly remember Utd fans being unhappy with Carrick for year especially when he was playing further forward.
The rewriting of his career is mind boggling.

He was average up until Fergies last couple of seasons, he seems to have matured into the role imo.
