Jose Press Conference - Cup Final Team News

REACTION TO EUROPA LEAGUE DRAW

"It's a bad draw in every aspect," he said. “It's far and is difficult. It's far and comes in a bad period for us. It's difficult because they are a very difficult team, they had a very good Champions League campaign. They’re defensive and physical but we’ll go for it."

TEAM NEWS

"Michael Carrick is available," the boss confirmed. “Clever, experienced, he left the pitch [against Saint-Etienne] in the right moment so Michael’s available. Mkhitaryan’s out and Jones, let's see and decide tomorrow."

ROONEY SET TO BE INVOLVED

“He's fine, he's training with the team," Mourinho said. “He was not selected for Saint-Etienne because he was not ready to play but he was ready to have one more important training session and no doubts, he is involved in the game."

Wayne issued a statement on Thursday confirming he’s staying at United and Jose said: “He did it in exactly the right moment because I think this should be the last question about him until the end of the season."

MOURINHOS RANIERI TRIBUTE

Jose has CR on shirt - Mourinho said: "My little homage to somebody that wrote the most beautiful history in Premier League. He deserves to have Leicester's stadium named after him. This (sacking) is hard to accept"

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has suggested players might have contributed to Claudio Ranieri's downfall.

"I am not inside. I have no right to try to find scenarios. I think it is Claudio's fault. If he had finished 12th last season, it would be amazing achievement but they would still be thinking about relegation and he would still be in a job.

"He is paying for his success. Probably the season started with typical selfishness of others. People thinking about new contracts, leaving, more money. It is a bit of our world. Some principles are going away a little bit. I had a similar experience [at Chelsea], but it was peanuts compared to Claudio."

FIRST TROPHY, FIRST SEASON

On Sunday, Mourinho could be the first United manager to win a trophy (not including the Community Shield) in his first season but he said: "You are right but I have so many good things in my career that I wouldn't be influenced by a little detail. The important thing is the club and the fans."

MORE ON ROONEY

"The questions were the only questions he could answer. He did it in exactly in the right moment. That should be the last until the end of the season. He said he wants to help team fight for trophies, I said I would be happy for that.

"He is fine, he has been training with the team. He stayed at home this week so he could have one more important training sessions., No doubt he will be involved [in the EFL Cup final]."

They've got on okay for years now though, so that's old news. He must respect what Claudio did last season, so fair play.

Never ever take Jose's words as gospel. He's probably sending a subtle message to the players that we wants them on their game. No complacency.

I'm sick to death of hearing about travel too. Have you see how the elite clubs travel these days? It's probably more comfortable than my bed. They aren't flying Easyjet. And it's a 4hr flight. They aren't flying to Australia.

I'd be happy with most of that. I'd feel more comfortable with Rojo at CB with Bailly as Smalling's confidence seems shot at the moment.

Really great to see Jose so humble about a fellow manager. Top man.

Yep; great words about Ranieri. He is bang on.

Jose The Manager I've always liked. Jose The Man might be growing on me a little bit.

(He's still got a fackload of terrible shyyte to atone for mind.)

SE85's team is just about bang on; although I'd give Romero the honour and as GWTS says probably start with Smalling and Rojo.
