Hail Caesar!!

I had no idea that Big Billy McNeill had deteriorated so badly

Not an easy article to read. There is that look in his eyes, that determined but confused look that I'm sure most of us have unfortunately had to see in the eyes of loved ones in the past.

What a shocker, my dad has dementia and it's hard on the family . Big Billy was a great centre half for Celtic and Scotland and a real gent to boot . It's brave of his wife to open up about this .

I was there when his statue was unveiled and he needed to be assisted while walking and Bertie Auld did his speech...really sad sight!

So sorry to hear that coop - it's such a tough time for all concerned. All the best to you and yours.

Jeezo, never knew was suffering like this. Cruel, absolutely cruel. He should be looking forward to reliving his finest hour in May. With this, the whole thing will just pass him by.

Our greatest ever captain, surpassed only by his own qualities as a man.

Thanks Foddy, it's a cruel disease, robs people of their memories but doesn't come with physical pain so I guess that's a bit of a blessing.

True. It's a terrible thought but I often think it's actually better for the person when the memory is completely gone as it's so hard when there is still some moments of insight and they know what is happening

Dave

Should have happened no later than when he retired in 75. Same goes for Big Jock BTW.

I just read that about Billy from the Sun news site.

Truly awful and as someone who works with those effected by Dementia i can tell you it's truly cruel.

Listen to older folk, don't hurry them along be observant.
