If they don't have it in them in the first place, then we might as well all give up.

I don't buy that they don't have it in them, just that McClaren didn't have the ability to bring it out of them.

Pearson probably did (as evidenced at Leicester), but want given enough time because Mel wimped out in the face of player power.

I hope Mel has seen the error of his ways and will give Rowett enough time and money to change things.

Sadly, as I have also said before, with Mel in charge I think we are fooked.

Concentration is a key part of that and I'm struggling to remember the last time I felt this team concentrated for the full 95+ minutes of a match.

We have players all over the pitch who are prone to lapses in concentration which is one of the reasons getting them to hold on to a 1 goal lead, or grind out a result is suicide. Sometimes they get away with it, but there are too many heart attack moments even then.

The only way around that is by playing in a way which keeps the opposition on the back foot and doesn't allow them to put us in a position where those lapses in concentration will be quite so costly, but again, we've failed to do that over the course of a match repeatedly and consistently, it also doesn't seem to be Rowett's style to do that and furthermore, even if it was, it limits the opportunity for counterattacking play meaning that against teams who can concentrate for the full match there's no breaking through - we've seen signs of this before too.

We actually seem incapable of switching between the two as well, allowing a team to build some level of over-confidence against us before we show superiority and expose the weaknesses. It just seems that once we allow another team into the ascendency that's in, we're overrun, there's a lapse of concentration, and we concede, we can't flip the game back and take advantage of those situations instead.

Too many players prone to too many little mistakes due to a lack of concentration and lack of awareness combined with a lack of ability to take back control.

I've said before, when we got promoted Seth Johnson was a far bigger part of that than most people give him credit for, full concentration the entire time he was on the pitch, great drive for turning things around in situations like that and fantastic overall awareness. We never replaced him and without him we were more a bottom-half championship side trying to survive in the Prem. We have nobody like that, and a weaker team in general in a far stronger league.

9earchange - Seth Johnson was a class act all round - skill, passion and desire.

But that's all in the past - its all about the future now and so, to come back to your original point, which of the players do you think can move themselves on to another level "mentally" and cut out the errors/panic that we see so often?

Obvs not Keogh, as 666 has made clear!

If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times (and it's stating the obvious), our players are paid FAR too much money. They tackle like their next pay cheque depends on it (and future £M's they'll potentially lose-out on should they get injured).

They're simply not hungry enough, and not trying to make an impact, further their careers and attract the big bucks £ 'cus they're already on them!

I'm sure GR will sort this and that, apparently, is his remit.

You'll do well with GR, best of luck

Sam Rush is the biggest bluffer to ever darken Pride Park and hope he's the next shyster out the door.

And Baz the bottom line is these players realise they couldn't do the business in a league higher so it's easy to give the fans some cheer but can as easy take it handy and pi$$ take us all.

Every manager recently has come in and said its a clean slate for everyone.

Feck that, root out the big times and let them sweat it out in the under 23's or pay them off.

Fed up off the player power which is obvious at Derby and for quite some time.

No mercy, get rid and hope the time off Gary has had, he will have been observing especially when we went into decline and his name agin popped up, of the players he needs to build around, the players he needs to ditch a sap and the only real clean slate and who get a fresh start are the players bought for big money and who have never being given a fair crack never being played in their preferred position.

I really hope Gary gets the time, I'd said my bits about it all but the way things are in the squad, he's exactly who we need.
