Pep's tactics

Not a wum or having a dig here.

Pep is undoubtedly a fantastic coach. His track record speaks for itself.

I have to say though if I was a City I'd be very disappointed with his selection tonight.

Monaco are an incredible attacking side and you're going there with a 2 goal lead. What do you do? Play 4 attacking midfielders and put a defensively suspect full back at centre half next to a developing young CB.
Ridiculous selection.

Pep should rightly get criticised for that performance.

Just one other thing to mention on the centre backs, Pep has been more critical of the midfield and the attack and the reason for that in his positional play way of playing, he sees the defensive frailties as much as being up the pitch more.

Essentially, it's about stopping the attack at source before it gets to the point of being a one on one with a defender. We don't have the stamina in midfield (and also why he was critical of Aguero) to play it though. It's where Gundogan has been a miss, as Silva, De Bruyne and Aguero in the same team really reduces our ability without the ball to stop those attacks at source.

Some really big decisions coming up for him at the end of the season really.

What is Guardiola to do?
He arrives with two full backs and a centre back short from his ideal personnel.
His purchases of Gundogan and Jesus get crocked for the season.
So does he do damage limitation or does he go out there and teach the rest of them the way forward?

They will be frightening next year.

The latter tommy, he's got to keep to embedding the principles. He ultimately wasn't hired for short term results.

Trev Sinclair, normally a good pundit for us (obviously) is talking a lot about the players not turning up. But from the off we didn't look right and for the second year running have bombed out after failing to compete away from home before it was already too late. Disappointing night. Kop out but in some ways glad Clichy, Kolarov and Sagna didn't have to face Bayern.

I would 10 2 agree with that

What I found most striking is that after Monaco scored their third last night, you could almost hear the confidence gushing out of the wound it inflicted on City.

It's odd, in a tie that had contained so many goals and with about a quarter of an hour still left to play, it didn't look to me as if City were confident in their ability to get another.
