Club 1872

THREE directors have stepped down from the board of Rangers fan group Club 1872.

Iain Leiper, Laura Fawkes and Joanne Percival were appointed to the top table in September as the organisation held its first boardroom elections.

The trio have now decided to resign from their positions but James Blair, William Cowie, Alex Wilson and Craig Houston will remain in place.

Club 1872 are the fifth largest shareholders in Rangers International Football Club plc after increasing their Ibrox stake to 6.25% last year.

It was formed after several fan groups – including the Rangers Supporters Trust and Rangers First – voted to come together under the one umbrella following the change in power in the Ibrox boardroom.

But the organisation has now been hit by three departures just months after members cast their vote for the first time.

A statement read: “Club 1872 has been advised of the resignation of 3 directors, Iain Leiper, Laura Fawkes and Joanne Percival.

“Club 1872 is disappointed that these directors are unable to see out their term of office but does thank them for all of their hard work, dedication and efforts to date.

“Becoming a director of the Club 1872 is a considerable undertaking and we should be grateful to all of those willing to take this step.

“The remaining Directors, James Blair, William Cowie, Alex Wilson and Craig Houston remain and have each committed to continue to serve Club 1872, its members and the vision and objectives of an organisation which is run for and by its members.

“The Board has made efforts over the last few days to deal with the practical consequences of the resignations.

“This has included speaking to our employee, dealing with the transfer of passwords and social media accounts, reassigning work streams and many other matters.

“A dialogue has also been maintained with the resigning directors. We are conscious that they were elected by you, our members and that you would want us to deal with them professionally and with respect."

i am at loathe to post but i feel to need to say something on behalf of joanne percival

Ive know Joanne for years, she is one of the most honest, hard working and loyal Rangers supporters i know, she has ran a RSC for years, prob the only female in our support to do such thing given enviroment of supporters clubs / buses. she has prob been to more Rangers games than every poster on this forum combined

she was with the RST at the very beginning and having spoken to her regarding her resignation i back her 100%

to state she and laura and in fairner the VB guy who also resigned have ideas above their stations is bang out of order

if you want to lay the blame or criticise anyone, then look no further than craig houston, the guy thinks he's sort sort of celebrity Rangers fan and has hardly lifted a finger since appointmeted to club 1872

Joanne and laura were the 2 most hard working reps the group had and they will be a massive loss

leiper im not bothered about because he is a member or the vanguardbears and as far as i am concerned, they are nothing but skum

the 4 remaining directors are absolute cowards, esp alex wilson.

their inaction with regards to houston's sneaky behaviour and self serving attitude has all but ensured the death of club 1872

my monthly subs was cancelled as soon as i was told of their resignation and every other person i know has done same.

the whole club is a fooking shambles and for the plc, paul murray and gilligan can GTF aswel
