Following in the footsteps of Arsenal and Liverpool, are Spurs now the side that always threatens to win trophies but never actually does?
For over a decade Arsenal and Liverpool were the clubs that were always amongst the favourites to win the trophies and all they have to show between them is a couple of domestic cups.
I expect Chelsea and the Manchester clubs to sweep up the domestic prizes this year (probably one of each). Is that the new norm with those clubs winning the trophies and the others pretending they can?
Thoughts?
Are Spurs the new nearly men?

My understanding of this term is that it refers to a team that almost win something but don't quite make it several times over a relatively short number of years. Bayer Leverkeusen between 97-02 is a great example. As Spurs have reached 1 League Cup final and have a highest finish of 3rd in the Prem in recent years we are not nearly men. However if you compare Spurs wage bill with the rest of the so called big 6 then we certainly win the punching above your weight trophy.

'we certainly win the punching above your weight trophy'
Is this punching above your weight?

It's teams like Spurs and Arsenal that I don't understand. They deliberately get knocked out of the CL to focus on qualifying for the CL the following season.
It's that kind of thing that is ruining football tbh

What a load of rubbish, do you actually believe this?

Spurs will definitely not win a title. With the luck of the draw they could possibly win a domestic trophy in the next decade.
Last season was Spurs time, They bottled it.

Bottled something we never had? We weren't top once last season. All that we bottled is second place.

Very true, you are not ready to bottle first yet.
