Now it's well-documented that Podolski was hardly a roraing sucess at Arsenal, when I saw him he looked unfit or disinterested. What was the problem, was he unhappy at being played out on the left or wer there other issues ?

Didn't suit the position he was asked to play. He had decent stats but I wouldn't say he often had a particularly positive effect on the team as a whole.

Scored goals and got assists but people didnt like him as he didnt track back lol. Like our current lot of flops do that anyway. Least the guy could put the ball in the net with ease and that wins you games.

I find it an odd misconception that Podilski didn't get on so well in his time at Arsenal. Whilst he wasn't a world beater, on the whole he was good for us. Pretty good stats in terms of goals and assists (particularly given that he didn't play CF), scored a few screamers, added a lot of energy to the dressing room, and contrary to what some may claim, he knew how to play the Arsenal way. Think he was better for Germany than he ever was at club level though.

In 82 games for us he scored 31 goals which is actually very good for a wide player as lets face it he probably played about 2 games as CF for us.
Compare this to Oxlade who everyone wanted in the team - 186 Games 20 Goals LMFAO.
(yes i am aware quite a few games are as sub but so were podolski)

Podolski is one of those players who saved his best football for the national team. At club level he's never been as good.
Michael Owen post age 20 was the same.

With my previous post in mind, I thought it was stupid you didn't play him in a system where he started up front and was allowed to drift wide.
Could have worked wonders.

Podolski played something like 3 games for us at CF and was abysmal each time. He is best coming from out wide and that's where he has also excelled for Germany. Playing wide allows him to drift central with less attention than if he started from central positions as he can't play with his back to goal, can't hold up the ball and consistently loses ground and aerial duels with CB's. This is similar to the reason Walcott is a lot more effective in a wide forward role than as a CF.
The problem though with playing him wide is the role often requires you to play box to box and he doesn't have the energy to do that. So he was often a liability to our LB when the opposition attack our left.

Is this all because he scored that goal last night?

I don't see how you can think this article is a WUMMost of the Arenal fans here are hardly singing his praises, good player, underused/wrongly used, no defensive awareness etc
To be honest I thought he'd already retired from, Int'l football, very surprised to see how many caps he got..
When I WUM, you will know.
