The "Top" European Jobs and UK based.......

Managers? In regards to UK nationals, the last 3 that I can think of (if you exclude the Valencia Job) are Sir Bobby at Barcelona, Toshack at Madrid and then Venables at Barca.

Do you think our Managers weren’t coveted for the “Top" jobs, even when they were successful? And if so, what do you think the reasons were?

Traditions of the “Top Club" ?

Just felt no point in approaching a happy manager?

I’ve also noticed that even our Top Clubs’ foreign Managers very seldom get a concrete link with the “Top" European based jobs. Although I do believe Inter would love to nab Conte.

Can't believe you forgot Roy at Inter. Twice.

But I do think the general reluctance to learn other languages is a big consideration for the big foreign teams.

Most of our top clubs managers have already been at European top clubs though, so would be unlikely to be poached back.

SAF was never going to happen, probably thought there was little point in trying to tap him up, maybe similar to Wenger.

Most UK born managers haven't been good enough for the top 4 PL sides, which is probably why they haven't very often been offered top jobs abroad either.

Not too sure why, and it's a shame. As someone else mentioned, a reluctance to learn languages might have something to do with it.

More aspiring British managers should look to broaden their horizons from a young age. As much of a idiot he is with the media, the best British tactician right now is probably Rodgers who spent his 20s/early 30s immersing himself in different continental styles of football. The currrent New Zealand manager Anthony Hudson is another one, pretty astute tactician and he hasn't coached in England what so ever. It would help eliminate the inflexibility many British managers have.

the language barrier and money I'd say are the key reasons.
