With all the gloom surrounding our latest accounts, and what is happening at Leeds, it may be worth looking at another clubs accounts to put things in perspective.
Yes we made a loss, and the Cellino dynasty along with GFH and Bates have been siphoning funds from the club for several seasons for anything but football related costs: Mainly court cases, but remove those from the accounts and the club is in a much healthier position than most in the league. And, with the removal of the aforementioned vultures, past present and future, the club can hopefully now move forward in a positive way.
This season we have witnessed a resurgence in the club, both on the pitch and off it.
Gary Monk has turned a team of misfits at the start of the season into one of the best in the league.
The fans have rekindled their love for the club by turning up in much larger numbers, on average nearly 5000 more per home game.
Cellino is no longer making the headlines, it's the team doing it now.
We have a new man Andrea Radrizzani, who seems to understand what an owner (or 50% owner) needs to do. Nothing, but help finance a club, and bring positive backing/sponsors on board.
So what about Brighton, a perennial play off team and one who have again this season continued to be a team challenging for promotion, but this time automatically.
Well that seems to be great for Brighton, but is it.
Their accounts for last year make grim reading, and maybe even grimmer to the Football League. They posted a loss of £25.9 million, and added to that was the loss in the previous season of £7.4 million. £33.3m total.
Under the new FFP Profit and sustainability test for 2016/2017, clubs cannot make accrued losses of more than £39 million over 3 years, and must have provided an estimated set of accounts for the current season, to be accumulated with the previous accounts.
Now taking the projected figure, £16m given by Brighton for this Financial Year that are already in the Leagues possession, and add that to the two previous results. Brighton will exceed FFP rules. by £10.3m. for the three years that the new rules take into consideration.
Now there are various scenarios that could happen here:-
1. The FL when they meet in April can deduct points from Brighton for breach of rules before the end of the season. Brighton no doubt will appeal.
2. The FL can wait until the end of the season, before applying any penalty. However this would throw the play offs into chaos, and would probably have other clubs taking action against the FL, and Brighton crying "FOUL"
3. The owner of Brighton suddenly finds a new sponsor in the last few weeks of the season to sponsor them for £11m for the remainder of the season.
4. The FL do nothing, and have all clubs crying foul.
To me there are many twists and turns to be had before the end of the season, and not just on the pitches.
It will be interesting to see if the Football League have the bottle to act on their own rules,
Could Brighton fall foul of New FFP rules

If the Football League wait until the end of the season and Brighton are confirmed 1st or 2nd they can just go to a company with the funds and say "Give us £11m and we'll give you £20m in return once the funds for promotion come in". Simple, sorted.

Why would Leeds fans give a f**k, we've been $hit on for years.
The club has been raped by inept and dodgy owners but the fanbase in the main is intact. With a little bit of tweaking we're ready to fly again and in my opinion this club can be a runaway train. If we manage to get there, the premiership won't know whats hit it!

If we finish third and they are able to get away with the overspend just to gain promotion, as a Leeds fan I would give a F**K.
Remember how we got shafted by the FL only a few years ago. One rule for one another rule for everyone else.

The FL meet at the beginning of April, before the season end to discuss such matters.

FFP is the biggest load of unworkable rubbish the football league has tried to implement. QPR went up were hit with a £50 million fine and then what?
Has anyone ever seen evidence of that fine being paid? Of course not. Southern clubs are treated differently.
