End of an excellent home season

Tomorrow will finally bring a close to India's long home season and is very likely to end in another series win as has been the case throughout. In a way this series win will be the sweetest (barring an Aussie miracle) due to the hard manner in which we've been pushed through these last six weeks - no one thought Australia would display as much grit and determination as they have done so full kudos to them.

I can't really fault one Indian player throughout this home season because they've all played their part - from Vijay, Rahul and Pujara setting the foundations to Bhuvi, Shami, Umesh (in particular) and even Ishant bowling very well throughout. Rahane has led very well this test and Ashwin's bowling has again been exemplary for the most part. Saha has also come up with some crucial knocks - it has also been good to see fringe players like Karun Nair and debutant Kuldeep Yadav make big contributions. Kohli, despite his lack of runs this series can also be credited with instilling a great fighting spirit in this side as this has been his first home season as captain and the results speak for themselves.

However the man of the moment for me has to go to none other than Sir Ravindra Jadeja - quickly becoming one of my favourites for his ability to produce a moment of magic when most needed be it with bat, ball or through his fielding. Only the third player to take 50+ wickets and score over 500 runs in a home season after the legendary Kapil Dev and Mitch Johnson - his averages and strike rates are far better than both. His knock today was a big reason why the Border-Gavaskar trophy will be won and his metronomic bowling filled with dot balls seems to have confused too many batsmen.

All in all 3-0 to the Kiwis, 4-0 against England 1-0 against Bangladesh in a lone Test and now 2-1 against the Aussies is an excellent return after 7 months of Cricket and shows a great level of consistency. I'm sure we'll be quipped with the usual "India only do it at home" but we can only play to the schedule and after the long away tours in the past, a decent home season was needed. We are away to the Windies and Sri Lanka this summer plus off to England in 2018 so we'll soon see how good this side can really become. However that can be saved for another day because this is about the current achievements and the boys have done fairly well

One thing which I totally agree with Kumble is that we need to work on our catching. As u all know catches wins matches for sure!

I think someone needs a word wth Kohli

I like his passion and aggression however he is the captain.

Im not expecting him to be a Misbah or Dhoni however he need to be an example. Hes the captains and there is no denying he is a wonderful talented batsman.

I love his aggression and passion and giving it back to the aussies and ben stokes like characters.

However sometimes he just needs to let his cricket do the talking.

Agreed grand. Kohli needs to calm down at times. He should stop getting distracted by other players. It does affect his game and concentration.

One thing I applaud about India team is I never see them complain about pitch. Other teams always have this as the first topic.

Viru,

Don't forget about the toss too. Remember Cookie bitching about it and folks claimed here that in India, win the toss, u win the match. Now India lost more and gave very sporting pitches this season to all the teams except SA. Still u will see some idiots complaining about it or in total denial mode.

Away tours is what we have struggled with in recent years especially under Dhoni but then again most sides do nowadays. We did fairly well under Kohli in Australia where we came quite close but essentially a combination of naivety and some great Aussie bowling meant we missed out. I would just like us to compete competitively which we've struggled to do especially in the previous two tours to England. Bowling is a lot more settled now which will help. Shami, Umesh and Bhuvi/Ishant is an excellent bowling attack abroad with decent variety so hopefully we can do a lot better injuries permitting.

The only thing I have is if we get injuries in the pace attack, we barely have anyone else. I can't think of any other pace bowler who would come in for shami, yadav, Bhuvi or ishant. Our cupboard is bare. We have tried a few spinners this tour, but haven't experimented with pacers.

Viru what has happened to Varun Aaron? I remember when he was touted as our brightest pace option.
