Back to the real Fitba

So, this weekend approaching looks likely to be the one where Celtic wrap up their 48th league title and their 6th title in succession.

The past 3 or 4 years have been somewhat of a downward spiral for the club in all honesty. Lennon's final season was as boring as I could remember and ultimately he got the last out of failing group of players to wrap up the title (eventually).

The Ronny Deila years will largely be remembered for European disasters but he still kept us on course for 10 in a row despite playing some god awful football for the majority of his tenure.

Arguably the best thing to happen to the club was the wake up call we got when Rangers defeated us in the Scottish cup semi final on penalties. It was the manner of the defeat more than anything, we looked lethargic, devoid of ideas and lacking any fight for the jersey.

Fast forward one year and the transformation on and off the park has been outstanding. Looking back at the team from this time last year leading into the game against Rangers, this was the starting 11:

Gordon

Lustig
Boyata
Mulgrew
KT

Brown
Bitton

Roberts
Johansen
GMS

Griffiths

Fast forward a year and the line up looks likely to be:

Gordon

Lustig
Boyata
Jozo
KT

Brown
Armstrong

Forrest
Rogic
Sinclair

Dembele

6 changes to the side that started the semi final last year but it's the players who were there that have turned the corner. Boyata looks more confident on the ball and has defended pretty well for the majority of the past 3 months. Brown has simply been outstanding this season and Gordon also looks a far better keeper with his hands and with the ball at his feet.

The fact we can be two trophies down towards a treble by the 2nd of April at the latest says a lot about the progress made on the park and it's a credit to Brendan Rodgers and his staff that the excitement is back amongst the fans week in and week out.

I'll be rooting for Dundee to win on Friday night against the dons which will ensure a title party on Saturday in town

The potential is there for this team, I just hope our coaching staff and big game players stick around for at least another season to secure our 49th and 7 in a row

i think thats a bit unfair on lustig i think he has been decent, a few shaky patches.

i think he would make a decent cb tbh, i think his days of running up and down the line are done.

Silver, maybe so, but i think we have had a few excellent individual performers this season. Rodgers just seemed to highlight Boyata a bit more, getting the fans to applaud him and stuff. Nothing wrong with it, as i say think he is just trying to boost his confidence, which any good manager would do.

Good choice

Although you could probably have two at the back that day and pick both ?

It's a tough one between Erik and Boyata. Both make mistakes on the ball and off it.

Boyata probably edges Erik in that he has pace and is a threat at corners. He's probably the only Celtic player to score a header from a corner this season

Dembele in the 5-1 game?

Eric frustrates me when there is acres of space in front of him and rather than move into the space and draw a player to him he passes to the full back who is being marked.
