Ever let football/your team's results......

affect your life?

I've watched the film Fever Pitch on numerous occasions.

For anyone who has not seen it. It's set in the 1988/89 season and is about a rather dedicated Arsenal fan.

Here's the main character's reaction to being told...........

"It's only a game".

"DON'T SAY THAT! Please! That is the worst, most stupid thing anyone could say! Cause it quite clearly isn't "only a game." I mean if it was do you honestly think I'd care this much? Eh?

Eighteen years! Eight-teen years!

Do you know what you wanted eighteen years ago? Or ten? Or five?

Did you want to be Head of Year at North London Comprehensive? I doubt it. I'd doubt if you wanted anything for that long. And if you had, and if you'd spent three months thinking that finally, FINALLY you were gonna get it and just when you think it's there it's taken away from you... I mean I don't care what it is, a car, a job, an Oscar, the baby... then you'd understand how I was feeling tonight. But there isn't, and you don't, so..."

I've gotta say the most depressed i've been after a match.............ever was the 94 Cup final. I can relate to the reasons, I was almost 17, and we'd just lost 4-0 in our first major cup final in 23 years.

But I gotta say, losing doesn't hurt anywhere near that much since then, particularly since my Missus and Children came along. I was angry the night of the Overbo night, but I did not let it impact the rest of my night/week. I certainly did not mope etc or let it affect how i got on with the people around me.

How about yourselves?

I don't get down or morose if we lose, however I do get annoyed if we haven't bothered to turn up and play to our capabilities.

There are far more important things in life besides football, or so I have been told anyway

I usually get angry for 90 minutes then get over it in half an hour there days. As you say kiss don't give you the time to give a toss.

I'm awful at the time of the loss but I'm alright after about half an hour, I just realise they're all just a bunch of useless caaants.

When they win the following week they're simply the best.

If we lose, I generally get on with my life and moved on from it by the time I've driven home from my local. The drive takes less than 5 minutes.

5 mins...or 2days, 17 hours and 45 mins if we lose, you get smashed and wake up in Denmark.

True dat.
However, I tend to drive these days. I used to catch a lift from my dad, but now I just tell him I'll meet him there. His driving petrifies me. He really shouldn't be driving anymore.

I won't go out on a Saturday night if we've lost during the day. I use it as an excuse to have a night in with a takeaway and a bottle of wine!

I was worse before meeting my partner though. It would really get to me but things change in your life and you realise what's really important. Having said that I schedule all of our social life around football. If there's a game shopping etc can wait.

I have certainly never let it affect my life as such. I come from a big Spurs supporting family so everyone from my immediate family and uncles etc are all Spurs mad so we are in it together if Spurs lose I refuse to watch or record match of the day. Takes me a good few days or so to actually want to watch any football highlights so it affects me that way. I am usually a bit annoyed for a few hours after. If I got a party or a night out with the misses and friends then that usually takes my mind off it.

I must admit, i was desperate to get on our plane before the United fans turned up, i failed. Funnily enough, got soaked, just like 94 and just like 94, 4 years later we went on to win it. I was thinking that on the night, so that that helped.
