Forest V The Royals Match Thread

Compared to every other Championship Club changing manager are we the only one not to enjoy a new manager bounce?

Mark Warburton must have anticipated being judged exclusively on results and over the short term, considering our position in the table.

We are now staring the prospect of relegation straight in the face. Warburton is faced with being labeled a failure; our appalling untrustworthy, brainless, owner is about to get shot of us at any price so it's 'not his fault'.

Make no mistake the trap door bolts are starting to be eased open underneath our feet and the noose is ready.

So three games left. Reading at home on Saturday, a game that we must win, anything else and we are down imo.
Reading will be looking to consolidate their position in the playoff's and will be looking to play football and attack us. That should allow us to play our A game. On the back of a result on Saturday I can envisage getting a draw or a win against QPR.

I hope that another three points will be enough, I could be wrong but another loss to Reading will send us down.

Looking at Saturday's matchday squad I have been wondering what ins and outs we will see before next August. From that 18 I think Tsibola and Vellios will depart. From all those who didn't make the squad I would expect only Henderson, Mills and Traore to be in next seasons first team squad. There may be some who graduate from the academy but I am leaving them out for now. But that would bring us up to 19, and probably needing another six players to make a 25 man squad which seems a reasonable number to me.

I think we would need to bring in the following:

A keeper
A right back
Centre back
Defensive midfield
Creative midfield
A striker

We could of course see others leave. Mancienne and Pinillos for example; hopefully not Brereton or Osborn. And Hobbs and Fryatt maybe given monthly contracts if the don't find another club.

It could be another busy window for us. Hopefully a more successful one that the last two.

We're not out of the woods yet!

Saturday's result may not have been crucial in terms of putting distance between you and the other relegation candidates but it stopped you falling behind, and at this point all that matters is making sure 3 teams finish below you.

Some absolutely mental results this season between the top and bottom sides.

Definitely. I wonder what the odds on Forest beating the top four teams in this league would have been? Would have earned enough to buy the club off Al Hasawi myself!

So true. Remember everyone got excited after beating Huddersfield the other week. Let's not count our chickens yet. It would be incredibly harsh to get sucked into the bottom three now but it has happened before to teams.

Talking of a creative midfield player, has anyone thought of bringing McGugan back?

He hasn't played once for Wednesday this year, so he should be cheap and he was one of our best players on his day. The season we came sixth, he couldn't stop banging the goals in.

Remember his free kick against Ipswich?

Best goal I have ever seen.

I would love to have that McGugan back but what are the chances? He has never really filled his potential. I'd rather see more of the Academy lads like Toby Edser, who looked very good when I saw one of the U23 matches recently. .

According to an Owls fan I know McGugan has let himself go big time.
His attitude was poor when he left us and it seems he has not improved any.
He is one of many who think that once they have a regular first team game they can stop working and learning. On the contrary that is when they need to work harder and realise that being a professional footballer is a 24/7 occupation.
Jack Wilshere is a classic example. He smokes, which affects his abilities. He drinks, which affects his abilities. He puts weight on, which affects his abilities. And that is just the stuff we know about. He could have been a great, instead he is just one who never realised his potential. Lewis is the same but at a lower level.

a guess it depends who stays, for example Britt, Clough and Brereton all stay then i would like to see the funds spent on other areas of the pitch

def agree with midfielders, some who can break play up and with good distribution, and a creative attacking midfielder would be great additions.

apparently Jota at Brentford is on a free this summer, he would be a great signing imo

I would imagine there would be loads after Jota. Warburton would be a plus point in persuading him to come to Forest maybe.
