Matip Injured Again

Klopp has confirmed that Matip is set to miss the Palace game. With Klavan also out, Joe Gomez looks to be starting next to Lovren.

Just when we were looking solid at the back this happens.

Thoughts?

Gomez will never be a LB at any level let alone Prem and CL.

He played there under rodgers, which suggest he has played as a LB at the prem level

I remember speaking to a Charlton fan who waxed lyrical over Joe Gomez and his skills. When he first arrived, I thought, 'wow'.

Since his return from injury, the confidence just hasn't been there. Whether he can do it or not, time will tell. If he is called on Sunday, he's got to go for it.

To assume makes an ass of u and me.

I think, with Europe next season and the seemingly far too frequent injuries in the squad that we need 5 centre backs. I'd have Matip, Lovren, Gomez, Klavan and Keane.

And vvd apparently

Manfrom - perhaps my memory is playing tricks with me but I recall Gomez playing really well when he first arrived. You seem to remember the actual games so I'm happy to accept I've over-egged this. I do still hold out real hope for him though (albeit based on my shoddy memory).

I recall being impressed the first few he played. We all were. he looked a talent. But then in either the West ham game or the Utd game, he was targetted mercilessly. think it was the Utd game. they just ran at him all day, bombarded him with balls to head. he struggled badly.

the west ham game was a shambles from all concerned. It was that debacle where they were 1-0 within a minute or two, and got hammered 3-0. That one and the Utd one were memorable for me. benteke scored the overhead.

Anyway. It's been 18 months since Gomez featured in the prem. I worry.

Am I right in saying Matip is a tad injury prone?

Does anyone know what Matip's injury record was like at Schalke?

According to wiki he played the following games per season for Schalke:
24 (breakthrough season)
42
47
38
42
25
41

Don't know how many were starts vs sub but that doesn't say injury prone to me.

Hmmm it makes you think that maybe the club are doing things wrong?

Maybe Liverpool's training might have something to do with Sturridge's constant injuries too?

ATM we have the following players out:

Lallana
Mane
Hendo
Ings
Lucas (doubtful)
Matip (doubtful)
Klavan (doubtful)

With the following players also having lengthy times out this season:

Lovren
Sturridge
Coutinho
Gomez
Karius
Can
Ojo

It makes you think doesn't it... Esp with us not playing a lot of games also

Or we have weak mental players and they can't play with even the slightest injury, (Sturridge?) And over the years under Brendan Rodgers and his staff they became easily prone to picking up injuries. Or we are just cursed and unfortunate all the time.

It's a combination of all. Bad luck, training methods and playing method. It's clear all teams get injuries and ours are the worst and quite obvious Chelsea don't get them.
