Media watch: City handed boost for United clash

Manchester City’s Premier League clash with Manchester United is drawing ever closer and if you’re to believe some sources, City have been handed a huge double boost.

Goal’s Sam Lee has reported that he believes Sergio Aguero and David Silva will be in contention for Thursday night.

He writes: “The pair were withdrawn during Manchester City's extra-time defeat to Arsenal in the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday.

“Silva was replaced by Raheem Sterling after just 22 minutes following a tackle from behind by Gabriel.

“But both men were part of City's light recovery session on Monday and club sources are hopeful both will be fit to take on Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium later this week.

“Fernandinho was also taken off during extra-time but there is thought the Brazilian was suffering a minor problem which should not rule him out of the derby."

Elsewhere, City’s on-loan winger Patrick Roberts has enjoyed an excellent season with Celtic. The England U20 star’s loan deal in Glasgow ends at the close of the campaign and he is hoping to make an impact at City.

Speaking to BBC Sport, he said: "I want to go out the best way possible. To win the Scottish Cup would be a huge honour, especially if it won us the treble."

"I haven't decided what's going to happen. My loan spell ends and I'll be at City for pre-season, but I'm going to play my future by ear and see where it takes me next year."

On to the transfer rumours now, former Barcelona midfielder Xavi has suggested City may be interested in Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli during the summer window.

Speaking to the Sun, Xavi speculated: “At the moment the best English player there is and also one of the best in Europe is Dele Alli. We are looking at a very special player.

“Technically he is the sort of player that Pep likes, the sort of player that suits the style of game that Pep likes his teams to play."

The Daily Mail believe City are close to joining a number of major European clubs in the hunt for PSG defender Serge Aurier.

Simon Jones believes: “Manchester City have discussed a potential move for Paris Saint-Germain right back Serge Aurier.

“The 24-year-old's representatives have sounded out a number of European clubs including Manchester United and Barcelona as they plan a summer move.

Was right at pitch level where Gabriel tackled Silva. Utter fecking disgrace, deliberate and successful strategy to kick him out of the game.

I'm not sure I would use the word 'tackle', there was no intent to get the ball, no contact anywhere near the ball, it was a clear attempt to take Merlin out of the game. It succeeded and it changed the way City were playing. How the guy got away without a card is beyond me. Fernandinho can be a bit overly robust at times but this wasn't overly robust, this was a clear piece of thuggery to change the game, which it did.

None, all on long contracts.
Only Aldeweireld at center back has 2 years left on his contract

Can't see it then. Levy is too piratical, and tbh the full backs are nothing special. They just look that way compared to some of ours.

I think it's the papers stirring it up because Spurs are second.

Actually Jerry they don't need to, Levi does that for you or at least did. I think if he started down the same road as he did with Harry of selling off your best players its wouldn't just be the players you would lose but your manager would be brushing up on his European Spanish (as different from Argentinian Spanish) on his way to RM

Exactly Poch would up and leave if Levy dismantled the team.
I hope Levy does'nt get ideas of settling the stadium debt with player sales. If he does that all the hard work will be undone.

Can't see him doing that with the way the team is playing
