French Team...

-----------------------Areola (24)------------------------
----Varane (24)---Umtiti (23)---Laporte (22)----
-------------Kante (26)----Pogba (24)----------------
--Coman (20)-----Griezman (26)-----Martial (21)--
------------Dembele (19)---Mbappe (18)------------

Average age: 22.4

And I haven't even mentioned any (apart from Mbappe) of the current Monaco side which is mostly made up of young French internationals...

All of those players play for one of Europe's elite clubs (apart from Laporte who plays for Athletic Bilbao) and all of them are in the first XI more often than not.

What have France been feeding their kids these past 2 decades

Let me put it in another way.... if I were Ghanaian and my kid was born and raise in England I would never give my blessing for him to play for England (even though he was eligible). This is my opinion of course.

It's precisely the 'should' that people object to. What you're saying implies that someone who has spent most or all of his life in England can't be considered 'properly English' and ought to be tied to their parents' identity. Thankfully most immigrants choose to integrate, to embrace their new home.

No he shouldnt. Why is that his mother land? So if he had kids with a girl brought up and born in England but to Nigerian parents, their kid should also play for Nigeria, even though the kid's parents were born and raised in England but to immagrant parents? There are people in France who can go back 4 generations like this, where their great grand parents were immigrants but their grand parents, parents and themselves were all born in France. You are making a complex matter very similplistic.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

There are complex situations like you mentioned. Like Barkley... should he be playing for England or Nigeria. In his case, he has far greater ties to England and thus should be playing for England.

For most of those in that french team and many french teams before it's quite simple. Their parents were from former french colonies who recently moved to France and thus they we're born in france. Imo they should be playing for their parents country of birth.
