Lambert's Future?

As this season draws to a close our thoughts inevitably turn to the summer. Who will we bring in (if anyone) and will we be mounting a serious promotion challenge next season.

Over the last few weeks the criticism of Paul Lambert has been slowly increasing. Opinions are divided as to his abilities, some remember how well he did at Norwich, don't blame him for what happened at Villa and are confident that he is the man to lead us to the promised land.
At the other end of the scale there are those who have no confidence him whatsoever. They believe that he's full of bullshat and we will always struggle as long as he is at the helm.

I, as, I suspect, many others want him to succeed purely because we want to see our club in the top flight again but I have to say that at this moment in time I'm not convinced. The poor quality of football, the lack of desire and ability displayed on the pitch in recent weeks is at odds with the performances promised by his, by now, predictable pre-match press conferences.

With two more matches to play before the players get a holiday before returning for pre-season training, Lambert must, by now have drawn up a short list of players that he wants to bring in to strengthen the squad. He must also by now have decided who of the present squad are surplus to requirements. He also finds himself in a uniquely strong position.

* The backing of the owners to move forward into the new season.
* The freedom to have the final say on recruitment.
* Owners with the money to spend on the players he wants.
* A player to sell who will bring in £20+million
* A full pre-season to prepare the squad & set out strategy.
* No players with long term injuries.

So in simple terms, Paul Lambert has no excuses for failure next season. There is nowhere for him to hide and no-one to blame but himself.

Expectations are extremely high both from the fans and Fosun Group and the pressure for Mr Lambert is well and truly on. I suspect that if we are not in the top six by Christmas, his Christmas present from Fosun will be his P45.

Sheffield United have played with a back 3 with EEL the middle player from the first day of the season when they started off very well. Their form dipped a little and he was switched to other positions.

I'd have him in our squad for next season as it's not the defense we need strengthening. It's the midfield and most importantly a goal scoring forward.

EEL scored nearly more goals as their CB than all our CB's combined.

If it's not the defense that needs strengthening why disrupt it by putting him in it?

He has scored 5 goals in league 1, Batth, Stearman and Hause have scored 7 in the championship. Not the same thing at all.

Obviously if EEL would struggle to keep a place in the Sheffield Utd side recently promoted to the Championship, he must be more than good enough to remain at a Wolves side who we all think should be challenging for promotion to the Premier League.

Good work Wolfie.

Oh and if we try to play 4-2-3-1 (a formation that is sucking the joy out of all football due to every side trying to find the type of player that doesn't really exist outside the top sides) or 4-3-3 (basically 4-5-1 that managers pretend is attacking) next season, I will probably give up on promotion pretty early on.

A solid 4-4-2 is what gets you promoted from this league. Everything else just gets you thrown into the Championship tombola with 13 other sides.

Eel even played as a defensive midfielder a couple of times a month or two back.

As for lamberk, agree with DJ and Paddy, he will be given zero slack and will sacked ten games in if we are not looking like challengers and I also don't think they like his attitude toward the foreign gifts they gave us.

Don't really think these comments are going to help Lamberts popularity amongst fans. No matter what opposition managers have been saying to him I don't think it was particularly wise to put the fans at the top of the list of things that explain our miserable home performances.

"Lambert knows it may not be a quick fix to rectify that poor home form.

"I spoke to some managers after the game and whoever has played us has watched us previously and said that if you get the crowd against them things will turn," Lambert said.

"You know that's what teams can look at...'if we bed in against us for 15-20 minutes and nick a goal the crowd can get against them'."

Everyone's fault but Lambert's isn't it.

Gem, just for info:-

Both Batth and EEL played in the Championship during seasons 14/15 and 15/16.

Batth scored 6 goals in 82 appearances. That's a goal every 13.6 games.
EEL scored 3 goals in 34 appearances. That's a goal every 11.3 games.

So EEL is quite capable of scoring at Championship level, given the chance. Like I said, I'd have him in the squad, especially as he is contracted for another 3 seasons. He can also play LB and is very familiar in a 3-5-2 set up.
