Lambert to Buy British

Lambert suggests he is to buy British as you can "churn them out and play Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday-Tuesday".

It appears he believes that they are more suited to this league.

Is this the right tactic?

I think for the chumpionship he has a point. Most of the strikers scoring the goals are British and Johnny Foreigner does seem to have a problem with 3 matches per week and playing in sleet and snow! We need battlers for this league. Experienced, battle hardened warriers who play the man and the ball at the same time, who can take the knocks and come back for more.
Costa is an exciting and skillful player but he hurt his ankle warming up for fecks sake

If we ever make it to the Prem then is the time to start looking for foreighn players with the flair to compete with the big boys

Depends what he means by 'buy British.'

If he means buying proven players like Bamford, Grabban, Rhodes, Forshaw, Mooy, Meyler etc. Then I would be all for it.

If heis talking about buying players like Saville, Coady, Wallace, Evans etc. Then I'm out.

I asked a group of Wolves fans the other day what they would prefer - 2 more like Costa and Cavaleiro, or 5 more like Ben Marshall. Every single one of them said they would prefer the latter.

Being greedy I personally would like a bit of both. We need three or four good quality home grown players that will be able to land running in the Championship. But given we have the Fosun case, I think it would be disappointing if we didn't make one or two marquee signings

Yes he is right and we need a settled team Notwithstanding current injury Costa looks fairly robust when you watch him play but I can see tthe sense in going back to having a core of home grown players used to the Champo and Prem if we can nick a couple from there
We should balance this with our best foreign players and I hope Costa stays and plays and we have better luck with injuries generally

we'll have a stack more chance of promotion with an iwelumo and a seb than dicko or bod , a henry and a jones than a prince and a saiss, a jarvis and a kightly than a cav and costa

I only recently discovered that Iwelumo has a first-class Bachelor's degree in Professional Sports Writing and Broadcasting. I think he makes a good pundit on Channel 5.

Thought I'd have a look at today's BBC gossip page to see what figures are being quoted in current transfer speculation.

Manchester United may be prepared to activate the release clause in Neymar's Barcelona contract - £170 million.

Everton have set aside funds in order to tie up a deal for Anderlecht's 19-year-old midfielder Youri Tielemans - £21 million.

Brighton are eyeing up Liverpool midfielder Kevin Stewart, 23, as their first signing as a Premier League club - £10 million.

West Brom are closing in on a deal for Lincoln's 23-year-old defender Sean Raggett - £100,000

Brighton 7 foreign 10 Brits and Eire
Newcastle 8 foreign 10 Brits and Eire

These are the two promoted so far and the numbers for the players that basically we're consistantly called upon.

So in short lamberk is talking bolloks.

Out of a squad of 35 only 28 players have turned out since Lambert has been the manager. Of those 28 only 8 are non British. So as we have done so poorly since he's been at the club, it's hard to see where his love of British players comes from.

I think the headline is a wee bit misleading. It's not so much "buying British", but buying players with Championship experience or better. I think the term used is domestic.

Either way, his main priority is to get whatever starting line up he uses next season, to play better at home and get rid of the fear of playing in front of the home fans. To get the beating of teams coming to Molineux and parking the bus, means a change of tactics. He needs to focus on playing 3-5-2 more often.
