... and so soon after his pantomime performance against Crystal Palace.
Maybe we think it'll increase his value before we sell him.
We need to refresh that back four, not reward what's there today.
Lovren - signs a new long term contract...

Then they will come to Liverpool and get found out, they will be asked to play out but can barely pass a ball, panic under pressure making error after error and look like school boys when they've not got the protection they are used to.

He's currently our 2nd best CB, tying him to a long term deal makes sense.
£100k does seem very punchy though. If reports are to be believed (& you're never 100% sure) then that would put Lovren on more money than the likes of Mane, Lallana, Wij, Clyne and on par with Henderson and Firmino.
In the context of other players, I'm not sure Lovren has really earned a contract of that size and if I were Lallana or Mane I would be hammering on the managers door right about now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Lallana is on 110k per week since signing his new deal. I reckon Mane may get offered a new deal in the next 12 months that boost him up another 20k or so.

Ok, maybe the list I saw was pre-Lallana's new contract.
But I think the point still stands, I don't think he's earned the right to be in the same ball-park as some of the other top earners let alone more than other first team regulars.

There are times when Lovren looks as though he can handle anything that comes his way. He's classy and composed, can deal with the physical side of the game very well and can pass it.
And then the wheels fall off. To be honest we have quite a few players that blow hot and cold and that's why we are making heavy weather of getting into the CL.
I don't really have an issue with his wages, he's worth them if he plays to his potential. He needs to raise his game though.

That's the problem, ARE. He is too temperamental for my liking.
He's either very good or v bad, no in between for this boy.Klopps conference today summed him up well: after the Dortmund game pay him everything. After the Palace game, just give him away to anyone else.

That might mean that's a centre back not coming in. Or not a significant change anyway. For me, Liverpool need another experienced/proven centre back at European level as well as a solid left back rather than Milner. Potentially even a right back as I'm not convinced at all with Clyne really.
Possibly another defensive midfielder as well, another attacking player and just in general, some good quality players to boost the squad. Look at the bench against CP, that really was poor and it doesn't give good confidence at all to bring something from the bench.

100k wtf. us that the norm for average defenders now days!

It's easy to say go buy new defenders and you'll defend better but it starts with the manager.
We've improved gradually at the back under Mourinho since he has joined despite only adding one defender who has missed plenty of games. Only 5 league goals conceded in 2017.
Remains to be seen if Klopp can organise a strong defensive unit regardless of the personnel.

That's it Klopp knows exactly what Lovren can do. He's a top coach. I'm sure he thinks he can work with the player, that's his forte, but if the owners offered up the money for a ready made replacement what would he do eh?
