A question fellow reds

Happy Friday all. I watched the game last night with 2 City fans and 3 Utd fans. At the end of the game the Utd fans were very frustrated. They actually said it was the worst football they have seen since the 80's. They were livid that they played for a draw and were even more amazed that the manager said that publicly especially against their neighboring rivals.

They accepted that they have injuries but they also said that they spent a fortune in summer so there is no excuse.

This is not a pop at Utd it is a genuine question for my fellow reds. How would you feel if we set up the play for a draw against your rival team?

I think I would be in the same frustrated state as my mates last night. If i was the owners of the club I would be questioning what was going on just like Roman did when Jose was in charge there. He didn't spend a billion pounds to watch his team play the most negative football in the league.

Thoughts?

I think fans need to accept that local rivalries mean a lot to them by next to nothing to a manager or (most) players. It was all about the situation and Utd are still in the hunt for top 4.

I actually think it was a good point for Utd yesterday. Whether it'll prove an important point or not we'll have to wait and see.

Also I agree with several others, this is Jose. You wouldn't get a dog and then be surprised if it barks. It's the brand of football he plays and has been very successful with, expecting it to change just because he's at Utd is fairly daft IMO.

I think UTD did well yesterday. Considering all their injuries and stupid Fellaini! To come away with a point at City is a good result. Make no mistake UTD are in the driving seat to finishing in the top 4.

Now should a Manchester United team be more expansive and play attacking football. Probably, but those years are gone under SAF. It's awful to watch now but they get the job done which is the most important factor. Their not being beaten for a while is testament to that.

Now I'm going to throw myself of the cliff for praising them so much

They could well be the team to beat next season if Jose can get the balance between the attack and defence right like he did in his first stint at Chelsea

Mourinho stood up every time utd smacked an aimless long ball out over the sideline or into space where nobody was.. he applauded.

you could tell after 5mins what he came for... and got.

I watched the game, pretty turgid. City wanted to win, United wanted to avoid defeat. As I say, turgid. But that's Maureen doing his job with the team hes inherited. Pogbas performance thus far has been disappointing; Zlatan, a dream to watch.

United loss of players through injuries have been just as bad as ours. The timing too, almost identical to ours, is weird.

Maureen is hanging on; on who he has left to make the team I can't imagine his doing anything else.

While we will struggle to achieve four wins, for me that's a bridge too far for United.

Hopefully.

Some opposition fans have this lazy assumption that we've played defensively all season. We haven't. We've set up defensively 2-3 times this season.

I know stats don't tell the whole story but I saw recently that we are 1st or 2nd in every attacking stat except goals. More shots, chances created, passes in attacking third etc.

You do remember the Rafa and Houlier days don't you?

I do and I didn't like the defensive side but that was because we didn't have the resources to compete.

Utd are the most expensive side assembled in football history. That was my main point. If we had spent that money and played for a draw would you be happy?

1. Liverpool outspent United by quite a decent margin whilst Benitez was in charge. He had plenty.

2. United don't have 'the most expensive side assembled in football history'.

Personally if you need a result then I have no problem with it. Would we have won the league a couple of seasons ago if we played for a draw against Chelsea? We'll never know but I'm sure we'd have stood a much better chance.

That's a very good point TOOR. You were riding on a wave of emotion from the crowd that day and really went for it. If you'd locked it down and been a bit more cagey you could have nicked that game and then who knows...
