Wenger on gambling - Your thoughts?

'It is immoral, I would forbid it,' said Wenger, on the subject of all gambling — even the Lottery.

They are many forms of punter, but in terms of those that bet regularly and have gambling as part of their social life, what are people's thoughts on gambling, do you concur with Wenger?

Personally, I despise the plethora of adverts around televised sports events always portraying the same message that gambling is fashionable for the young. I find such blatant attempts to recruit young people (young men) into gambling slightly immoral.

But, what is worse is the fact that gambling companies will shut any customer down who shows any signs of consistent wins, or having a systemised approach to betting.

This is the policy of all gambling companies, yet they are not required to disclose this policy publicly. I think at the very least their adverts should state this policy clearly so people getting sucked in at least have the full facts at their disposal.

Biggish have you ever gambled in the past?

I have, and it started to spiral a bit out of control before i put a stop to it. Many other people cant do this. I'm one of the lucky ones.

not gambling, but i am an ex professional currency trader and i did some personal account trading and that got out of control for a while.

I still trade currency ETFs and had some 100/1 leveraged CFDs during the greek crisis. Was it the overnight stuff you done professionally?

The gambler himself is not immoral but the way bookies, drug dealers and alcohol serving companies take advantage of vulnerable people is disgusting. For advertising for Betting and alcohol should be banned

The markets are very different animals theses days and their behaviours driven by other factors....so much aglorithm trading now....it did not really exist in my day.

I think that is why I lost money trading a personal account in modern day markets and it got really messy for a while...on that level it was exactly the same as pumping money into bets and you then chase your losses...luckily i stopped, i got badly damaged, but it was not fatal.

So basically Biggish, even if you had access to a similar book to the one Biff steals in Back To The Future 2 it wouldn't do you much good

I spent a bit time as a consultant fixing algorithmic trading platforms and algos back in 2008. Worked on establishing intra bank trading of CDS just before it blew up.

Gambling is a sickness. Common sense. You will lose more than you will win.
